I just laughed out loud that my one school made #5 and my other school (which consistenly ranks in the top 10 didn't make the list at all. I laughed even louder when I read: SUNY-Oswego! This list is a joke. SUNY-Oswego?

This is the REAL rankings from Princeton Review:
http://www.thebestcolleges.org/2012-...hool-rankings/

I guess I didn't realize that BOTH of my schools were listed as party schools. Well, it sure beats what we are known for at this moment in the news.

U of Alabama is only #2?
NOOOOOO!!!!

Back - WAY back - U of Alabama was, I believe, #1 in one of the very first party school lists, the one that Playboy came up with.
How did Alabama get to be #1? Did the magazine do extensive interviews, send reps to campus for weeks of polling, call every student?
No.
They mailed a survey to the SGA president, whom I happened to know. He took it back to the frat house, and he and his best buds sat round filling it out, spinning fictional yarns to prove their theses.
Yeah, that's how much credence those polls have.

The Princeton Review would beg to differ:

Part of me really wants to argue with this because from what I understand from my friends at other schools, we are pretty typical.

However, when you are surrounded by 70 miles of wheat on all sides, every little infraction seems a bit amplified. So I definitely understand our reputation. Heck, I was on campus during the riots a decade ago. (Watching safely from the house I might add )

Yeah, I'm looking at that list thinking "U of Michigan is on there but Michigan State isn't? Central Michigan isn't? Both are MUCH bigger party schools than U of M.

CougADPi - In all fairness to WSU, I could not say how typical it is to compared to many schools in the country. I know they've tried to tone it down (a little over a decade ago they were ranked #6 by some poll - Princeton's I think).

If you put me in Pullman, I'd be drinking heavily by November (I'm a teatotaller) just because Gilligan and the 7 castaways were closer to civilization - not to mention the snow.

However, my daughter at least had some grounds for comparison and she's made the comparision - to all of her UofO friends who think THEY are crazy partiers. She attended WSU her freshman year and has gone to more than a few parties on Greek row at UW and OSU as well. Based on her own experience WSU wins w/o any of the others coming within spitting distance (she would say they are to partying what UO is to football in the NW). In order, she'd list it as WSU, UW, UO and OSU. Granted that's just her opinion, but anyone she knows who has had any experience at WSU has agreed they have earned that #1 spot for our region.

On an almost funny note, when she had her cheer team tryouts at WSU, they taught the girls a really BASIC cheer. The coach said, "I know this seems simple for college, but we have to keep it simple because most of the fans are already pretty drunk when they get to the game."

Check out the scout.com Cougar blogs on Mike Leach coming to WSU. A TT fan wrote in to say he was now a WSU fan and what should he know about them. 99% of the responses: We drink and we hate the huskies. My favorite was- We drink. A lot. Of Cheap Beer.

When she went down to UofO for orientation she was in a group of transfer students like herself. Throughout the day people would ask her what school she was coming from. When she told them WSU - every single one (no exception) said, "Oh, the party school." She said she should have just told them she went to the party school, and they would've known who she meant.

Of course, this outs exactly which school I was talking about in the recruitment story I wrote. So much for that.

so reading their methodology party=breaking the law. This is why an odd list of schools pop up. My guess is the list should be called the schools with the most vigilant campus security, not biggest party schools.

The Princeton review seems to be a bit more accurate but I'm noticing a strong bias toward Midwest/Southeast Schools. Because they seem to have gotten their data from polling students, it would seem plausible that bigger student population=bigger party school.

I guess I have a problem with the word PARTY. What does that mean? If a party means a gathering of people for enjoyment, it's one thing, if it means a gathering that includes alcohol it's another and a gathering of people for the express purpose of breaking a variety of laws a third. I wish they would define the word in their terms before announcing the rules. And god forbid they should fully explain their methodology. At least the Daily Beast article did that, even though I don't agree with their definition.

UNC-C???

The only reason UNCC has any party scene is because most of the population are from Charlotte and still party with their high school buddies.

WSU easily gained 100k new fans with the Leach hire since we TTU alums are pretty much unanimously disgusted with our administration over that debacle. Leach has a huge fan base of his own and I don't doubt he'll interject a lot of his odd brand of energy into that program.

His press conferences (when he can be roped into doing them) are not to be missed... he's a very intelligent esoteric man known for going off onto odd but fascinating ramblings about things like the history of pirates. He's also remembered for his infamous "fat little girlfriends" rant from the 2009 season.

Man, I miss Leach.

My favorite was our Apple Cup slogan my freshman year: Win or Lose, We drink more booze. We'll take the cup, but we prefer the bottle.

And then there was the classic from a couple years ago: Our drinking team has a football problem.

At least we have fun with our image. (I was, well still am, a total non-partier. I was pretty boring in college....most of the time. )

This is exactly how Slippery Rock ended up in the Playboy Party School list back in the day. When the town itself is dry; when you're in PA with its arcane liquor laws, so you tend to overbuy just to be safe; and oh yeah, when you're in the middle of BFE, there just is nothing else to talk about.

1.

2. Parties are not exclusive to Greeks, so a school full of GDIs can still be a party school.

I've heard he's a character. Tell those 100,000 new fans they need to do what any good fan does - send cold, hard cash. They need it (in the middle of trying to raise 80 million for a stadium expansion I believe).
