post borrowed from sororitymom.com :

It’s going to be an exciting adventure for one US sorority house director, Deb Chapman of Eugene, Oregon. Late last spring, SororityMom.com was contacted about this unique opportunity and I got the word out. A production company plans to film the creation of the first-ever American-style sorority in England. Besides selecting outstanding young sorority leaders, they need a wonderful House Mom to exemplify that role. Fifty of you readers responded to the casting call! The casting director, Josephine Brassey, commented on what a fantastic bunch you were. But they had to narrow it down to one!
Here’s a note from Deb that I thought you’d enjoy. She’ll be representing all of us as she introduces the concept of sorority house mother to British viewers.
“The interview process was great – I had a lot of fun getting to know Josephine and a few other members of the crew. The process took a bit longer than I thought it would – just about four months worth of pins and needles. I haven’t met the girls from the different sororities who will be going with me, but they look adorable! The show will be called “Sorority Girls” and the fictitious sorority will be Sigma Gamma (SG for Sorority Girls….. We will be covering everything from moving in, polish week, recruitment process, and finally initiation. It will give the U.K. a pretty good idea of our American Greek System that they are so curious about. The filming will take place in Leeds (near the University) where they have actually remodeled a house to look like a real sorority – including a sleeping porch!

I’m thrilled – and a bit nervous about the adventure (the riots going on there have me a bit concerned), but non-the-less I’m flattered and hope not to embarrass myself too much over there. I’m happy to keep you updated on the experience – along with some photos to share with your readers. Wish me luck!!! “

Deb, we sorority — and fraternity — moms have your back! Best wishes from the hundreds of us working across the US to provide a home-away-from-home supporting young people in their college experience.

Every year since 1851 gorgeous, fashionable female American university students get together to invite a select few new members into their Sorority Chapter, a secret all-female club. For the first time ever British girls will have the opportunity to be a part of it, in E4's brand new reality show Sorority Girls.

Five all-American Sorority 'Sisters' are setting up the first ever Sorority Chapter in a British university city, Leeds. However, making it into a sorority is no easy matter. Potential new members must endure weeks of full-on challenges while remaining beautiful and perfectly turned out every single day.

Sorority Girls follows a truly original, formatted club as it transfers to the UK, and sheds light on all the weird rituals, unique traditions, tear-filled tantrums, in-fighting and attempts at sisterhood, making the ultra-exclusive and glamorous Sorority system accessible and attainable for British girls.

I just read through some of the blog postings on here is sounds different to me, like the house mom writes:

"The girls are all adorable and incredibly dynamic! All five of them are from different colleges and sororities – and seem to get along really well with one another. Filming will start tomorrow with move in day for the five “founders”. I will try and write as often as I can to keep you and your readers caught up on everything that’s happening – unfortunately, I won’t be able to post any photo’s of the actual filming until after we have finished….part of the contract I was told…sorry."

She also writes:

"We are on day four of filming and we are all looking a bit deranged due to the long hours we’re putting in. Day 2 and day 3 went until the wee hours of the morning (3:30 – 4 a.m.) which is of course way past this old girl’s bedtime! We have finished choosing the new PNR’s and the 16 of them move into the house today…so many cute British girls tried out – it felt like actual recruitment combining both tears of sadness and tears of joy. "

So it's a "made for TV" sorority? Yeah, this has sisterhood and longevity written all over it. But then we know no NPC sorority would do this. I've said before and I'll say again, real rush (including member selection) would be WAY too boring to ever put on TV and there's way too much opportunity for embarrassment to the organization. But I do think American style sorority life could work in England, if done correctly.

Oh found this link for a job posting when they must have been looking for the house mom:

http://www.sororitymom.com/wanna-be-...scameraaction/

"The role of the House Director on the programme is:
1. Veracity, British people have absolutely no sense of sororities, we are aiming to make the programme as true to life as possible.
2. To provide a different tone to the programme, 25 women between 18-22 on screen all the time could become tiring!
3. To mentor the girls, provide support and generally be someone for them to talk to. In each episode we’d like to have a segment in which the House Mother advises and councils the American Sorority Sisters as well as the British Pledges.
The House Mother will not participate in challenges or really any segments except formal dinners attending philanthropy events (but not participating) and her role as an advisor. So in summary we will not set up any situations which would be intended to embarrass our House Mother!"

BetaGirl -

What sorority were you in? Whichever one, I assume you were a member of the Beta chapter from your username. Or are you a Beta Sigma Phi? If so, at what school?

This. I want to know this.

Beta doesn't fit for the NPC groups at the university in Athens-Clarke County, GA (UGA) as far as I know.

Also, she's posted 9 times. One introduction and eight posts about this show, which sounds dumb.

Nope - the post above noted that it's Sigma Gamma - for Sorority Girls.

See? Dumb.
