Wow, sorry for all that trouble. Obviously there seems to have been a computer snafu, so keep your head up and hopefully everything will go swimmingly once they've figured out what happened. Just be persistent, like others have said. It sounds like your RG will help you, and that's good to have someone working for you.

Wow. I am so sorry you are having to go through this. I am sure it will all be made right in the end, but how frustrating and disappointing to be the victim of the error. I know I would be asking "Why ME?", especially after having three preference parties and liking all three groups.
Looking forward to hearing about your happy ending as I have every confidence there will be one.

Make sure they're spelling your name right. As in, go to the Greek life office and watch them type it in. Yank the keyboard out of their hands if needed.
As someone who frequently has to spell her first AND last name, and has done so as SLOOOOOOOOWLY as humanly possible, and watches the person writing it down STILL spell it incorrectly, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this is what happened.
If you got invited back through preference, obviously the sororities that did so know who you are. Where you get a bid will probably depend on a mix of how you ranked the sororities and how they ranked you.
Good luck sweetie - I know I'd be setting things on fire about now!!

This is a horror show!
Please, take the good advice that all of these nice women have offered you and follow up with the GL office.
I wonder if there's a possibility you might see some of the women whose prefs you attended and if they have been friendly and asked you where you ended up?
Hmm. Is there a chance that your lengthy prison record showed up late after prefs were over?
JUST KIDDING, honestly. I wish you the best.

Good advice from everyone thus far!
sophiealexa, please hold on to the fact that this is a MAJOR mistake! Three sororities wanted you enough to invite you to Pref; you should have been on three bid lists.
The easiest (and for me, most effective) way to get your point across is to find a sentence or two, and simply repeat it as often as you need to do so to the Greek Life Advisor: "I was invited to THREE Pref parties, and at least one is engaged in continuous open recruitment. I want my bid." "I know this is a mistake, please fix it immediately."
((((((((((((((((((sophiealexa))))))))))))))))))
Please let us know WHEN it's fixed, and where your new home is. I'm believing that this is one in a million, and Green Book be damned - you should have gotten a bid!

Good call on this, Honeychile. I can't understand why GL isn't bending over backwards to fix it. At some schools I know, this girl's mother would be eating them for breakfast. Not saying that's right. Just saying.

I don't know where this girl is, but I suspect that there can be a several GC Mom Army going in there. (My kids will tell you, "Do NOT p*** off Mom! Dad writes the legal papers...Mom goes into battle.)
...just saying as the mother who kept her mouth shut for the ENTIRE rush........

As a point of clarification, computers do not make mistakes. It was a user error. Not YOUR error, of course, and not your 3 pref houses, but somebody's. And this can be resolved. Go in being nice (it sounds like step 1 is completed) and then pull out the big guns. Without saying here publicly which school you're at, maybe you can narrow down to a region so you can gather an army of GC moms by PM, if needed. But I have a feeling this will be resolved soon. Just don't let a single day go by without nagging on them.
And I'm all about life lessons. This is a good lesson for you to learn to deal with difficult, awkward or embarrassing moments, and not just letting it go because you don't want to be in that situation. It WILL happen again in your life, but next time you'll be more comfortable with it. And god help the person you have to confront next time!
Give em hell and let us know how it goes!

This should NOT be hard to sort out. The three sororities you visited submitted bid lists to Greek Life. The sororities should still have copies of those lists, which Greek Life should be able to collect and compare next to your (re-submitted) bid preference card.
If I were you I'd be pretty pissed. But I'm like that. I'd be hounding them for a specific time of when you'll have a resolution from them, because you're missing important bonding time with your new sisters. If this isn't resolved in the next day or so, I think I would consider contacting the NPC so they can light a fire under someone.

I agree and this is what I don't understand. They should have been able to sort this out on the spot. Her Rho Gamma knew she went to the parties. There should be a paper trail. How hard is it to compare the papers, figure out where she should have been, and match her? Even if it means granting a chapter an extra person over quota... I'm sure there is someone "official" from NPC who can give permission to do that since it was an error. And I highly doubt the rest of groups on campus will put up a stink over it.
Hopefully it has been resolved since the OP hasn't posted again, but based on the information we have the apparent lack of follow through on the very first day is appalling.

yes-greeklife should have already fixed this and if they did not feel comfortable they should be consulting the npc regional person.

If they were using ICS, or even something similar, she would have been assigned an ID number of sorts - she may not know what it was but it should have been on all of her schedules and her recruitment counselor would have had it. Tracing the number might be easier than tracing the name if the name was mispelled in the first place. They would also be able to sort all PNMs by number that registered for rush and see if there are any numbers missing (like it going from PNM #101 to PNM#103). Definetly sounds like someone made a huge mistake on the computer.
A thought: The sororities might think she withdrew after prefs but before bid signing if her name/number magically disappeared off their computer system and that is why she was not offered a bid.

Wish it was my school. I have our bid list and the list of women who were placed plus access to the computer system with all the applications. I agree that this is probably human error and you need to go back to Greek Life. At this point it sound like you are your only advocate and you need to "fight" for your place in one of the Chapters. It should be easy and I know what I would do as the Head of Greek Life.
So sorry your going through this. It is not supposed to work like this.

^^^Excellent advice. Actually, everyone's given great advice.
I keep thinking "this is an 18-year-old young woman" (assuming she's a freshman, of course; I don't know otherwise). This is a big deal for a disappointed, hurt 18-year-old to handle, although I agree totally with DubaiSis about life lessons. Yet, to me, starting college, possibly far away from home, and dealing with this is really asking a lot.
If there were some way that the OP could get some knowledgeable outside support without breaking any NPC rules, I'd love to see that happen. Sometimes you need your posse, you know, backing you up when things get dicey. It's OK to ask for help when you need it.
