Oh yeah I forgot that's her. I loved Punky Brewster! I used to think I WAS her lol (although I was several years younger than her). A guy at a carnival stand told me that I looked like her one time when I was like 10 or something. lol

This thread so funny, since I've seen all of these Greek shows/movies (except for the Sabrina one). I've seen "Friends till the End" a hundred times or so. About Saved By the Bell, I remember Kelly and Leslie (she was only on the College Years episodes) going through rush also. They were disappointed at first because they didn't get into their first choice sorority but then they were happy because they got their second choice. I forgot how many Greek references were in Scream 2--I need to watch that one again. Have any of you been watching Dawson's lately? Jack got initiated into Sigma Epsilon on last night's epsiode.

Oh I wanted to see that (Dawson's Creek), but we had a Panhellenic Progressive Dinner last night (it was required), and I forgot to put in a tape to record the show! <smacks herself on the forehead). Dangit! LOL

Dawson's Creek?

I'll probably embarrass myself by admitting I watch Dawson's Creek, but did anyone see the episode where Jack ws given a bid by "Sigma Epsilon"?

For those not in the know, Jack McPhee is "the token gay character" on DC. He's openly gay, but has had a hard time dealing with what he thinks are stereotypical images of gay men. He was the star of the football team in high school, an excellent student, and basically went out of his way to show just how BUTCH he was.

Well, now the Creekers (except for Pacey) are in college, and Jack starts hanging out with some guys in a fraternity. Of course there was the expected ribbing from his friends, but they supported him in his decision. When it came time for the fraternity to offer Jack a bid, he came out to them. Suprisingly enough, the fraternity members told him that they were under pressure from the administration to diversify, and that they wanted him BECAUSE he's openly gay.

Jack was wary about fulfilling some 'quota' but they told him that there were other openly gay men at the school, but they chose him because he seemed to 'fit better' with the overall identity/feel of the house.

I'm interested in knowing how others felt about this episode. I've only seen the NIC/NPC bid process from the outside, so I can't verify how true to form it was.

I watch Dawson's Creek as well. I'm sure there are a lot more fans among our GCers. It's ok. You're not alone.

I can only speak for my group when I say we have nothing in our book that says, "Ok, you need at least one blonde, brunette, lesbian...". I imagine it isn't that way for other GLO's voting processes either.

However, a founding chapter of a National fraternity is on my campus. Their national officer came in this past summer to re-evaulate their membership because they felt "they had too many football players." This chapter is very well-organized, has a terrific advisor, is financially responsible, has the most members on campus, and are all around nice guys...they do everything by the book. (I know this because our advisor is friends with their advisor, our local priest)

Personally, my favorite quote in that whole movie is "Theres more to sororoties than giving blowjobs"

Great portrayal of sorority girls. really <insert sarcasm here>

The fraternity president didn't say it was the national HQ of the fraternity who was making them 'diversify', but the university administration. Lots of universities have completely disbanded the fraternity system for failure to diversify with regard to race, or for failure to go co-ed.

Yes, but how many others have an almost unhealthy fascination with Pacey Witter? I love me some Pacey...

Exclamation GILMORE GIRLS

On tonight's episode of Gilmore Girls on the WB, Rory is told she needs to be more social in order to be accepted to Harvard after high school, so she decides to ask a table of girls if she can sit with them, and they say yes. She talks to them for a few minutes until lunch is over, and then her "frenemy", Paris, is like "Oh my gosh, how did you get in with the Puffs?" Then she proceeds to explain that the Puffs are the most elite high school sorority there, and that their table is invitation-only. Paris begs Rory not to say anything bad about her to the Puffs, because she is a legacy to them and she says her "whole life depends on it".

The next day, Rory is asked to sit at the Puff table again, and when she asks "what's the whole sorority deal?" they act as if they don't know, and then say "well what's the point of a secret society if people know about it?" Then Paris walks by the table, and they ask if she knows her. Rory says yes and says all this nice stuff about her that gets Paris invited to sit with them as well.

That evening, Loralie (Rory's mom) tells Rory that she needs to put on her cute pajamas, lipgloss, etc. because Francie (one of the Puffs) called and said they were going to kidnap her. So they kidnapped her, and blindfolded her (along with other girls). Then they are told in order to join, the can't say anything about what they are to do. They break into the school and light a candle in the principle's office. They are told to say an oath while holding the candle, and ring the bell on the desk three times. The principle comes in and yells at all of them when here hears the bell. He gives them detention and such. Rory ends up not joining them and going back to reading a book and listening to her CD player during lunch. Eventually another girl sits with her at her table and reads a book also.

Is anybody old enough to remember the "Facts of Life" episodes about sorority life? Tootie was rushing and Natalie was doing a story for the school paper about it and was sneaking around at the parties generally ruining things for Tootie? They had the sorority girls be sooooo shallow and bitchy they made Blair look like an angel!!!!!!! (I also recall something with Blair and the sorority thing too) Of course in the end Tootie realized the "error of her ways" and dropped out to stay friends with Nat.

I used to watch that show (The Facts of Life) when I was really little (it ended when I was five-and-a-half), and I watched re-runs after that. I don't remember that episode, though. I looked it up online, and this was the episode to which you were reffering:

Episode 170 aired January 10, 1987 "The Greek Connection"

Natalie writes an article that angers sorority pledge Tootie.

There's a place you gotta go for learning all you gotta know.....

I have the Facts of Life theme running through my head. Can't remember the rest of the words. Anyhoo...

I personally would never give Natalie a bid. And it isn't even because of her looks; she was just a totally obnoxious person. I could definitely see Jo as a DZ though; she was cool!

Heads up, there's a Facts of Life made-for-tv reunion movie coming up. Jo wan't be there though, totally reinforcing my aforementioned assertation of her general coolness.

Interesting Facts of Life/Tracy Tidbit
I was so inspired by the Facts of Life that I wanted to go to an all girls school and wear a uniform and all that jazz. So I went for one year and couldn't stand it (too many Blairs) and my butt landed back in public school from 8th grade on.
