I may have a cousin rushing at K State, but we'll see, she may put it off a year or not do it at all.

Red face Recommendations?

Hey! I am new to this forum but found this topic very interesting and helpful! I am rushing this fall, and didn't know that recommendations from alum and active members were so important. I am an XXX hopeful, but not a legacy (my dad was an AEPi but that doesn't quite help me). I don't know anyone well enough to ask for a recommendation for XXX, but I do for YYY. Even though YYY isn't one of my top choices should I still ask for a recommendation? Should I look for a recommendation for XXX?

Thanks!! And good luck to everyone rushing Fall and Spring!

You should try to get a recommendation for every sorority at your school. I don't know why you're so set on XXX, but you should know that there's a very good chance you may not end up there. You may not end up liking them, or they may not end up liking you, or you may both like each other but you end up falling in love with a completely different sorority. If you tell everyone you are "XXX or nothing" you never give yourself a chance with other sororities, who do NOT like to hear things like this. Please, Please, please stop saying how much you love XXX. It will only hurt you. (I am leaving out the sorority name in case the OP wises up and changes her posts)

ETA, also check around your school, church etc for women who you may not know were in sororities, or who will know people who are in the chapters you're looking for.

Hey thank you for the advice! I feel most at home in XXX (is it better to not mention specific sororities?) as compared to the other houses I have visited but definitely have an open mind about every other sorority. I understand my opinions can change a lot as I go through the rush process. I know not to tell everyone at my school that I have a preference- that's one way to automatically get cut!! Good to know I should get a recommendation for all. If I can't find one for all, is it ok to have recommendations from people who are not related to greek life at all (employers etc)? Also is it better to get a recommendation from an alum or current member?

thank you sooo much hope this isn't too long-winded

My daughter is! She is a double leg to one and then to mine as well. Should be fun! Her older sister helped us find recs to many of the other houses on campus that she had friends at. I hope she has a fantastic experience!

Thanks FSUZeta! she bought enough cutsie dress her senior year towards graduation with the excuse "well you know I can wear these during rush!" There are actually quite a few girls from our area considering it (small rural area) so it will be fun for all of them to go through together.

Hopefully my cousin @ Oklahoma State! He's like my little brother and lives with us! It would be awesome to have another greek under the same roof. He of course plans on doing fraternity recruitment

My little's twins will be going to VA Tech and James Madison. Part of me is hoping that the twin going to JMU will wait a year or so, when ADPi is colonizing there!

First of all, yay for VA schools - even though I wish it were Mason instead of JMU! Second, when I read JMU the first thing I thought was, "Oh no, a year too early!"

GMU doesn't have ADPi, either. My little's roomie's daughte went AOII there, saying it was as close as she could get!

I'm thinking that the pin strategy may work - the twins & their sister all love opals!
