I had to wonder about the hand sign one chapter is making in their pics. I mean, I see that they're making their letters, but it could be mistaken at first glance.
WTF....they need to rethink that one! Ha! Sometimes you try too hard to make things work and you miss the obvious. I had a friend who wanted to name his daughter Aubrey Skye. Unfortunately his last name started with an S. You might see the problem. Fortunately, they had a son!

Sweetie, keep your mouth shut when it comes to how you think the chapters are perceived. Count yourself lucky to be honored by an invitation to any Ole Miss group.

When you get to campus, make friends. Look at their rush wardrobe. SAVE MONEY. It will be somewhat expensive to do it right... Then, plan to go shopping in Memphis before rush week.

Olemissglitter, do the other chapters require formal whites? I have no idea about the other houses... We had ours made, as they were informal whites b/c we stayed in the house to do ritual... If so, she should consider buying a white dress just in case.

That being said, there are plenty of Ole Miss rush stories on here. Read them.

Well, you can go to Tupelo. But, the shopping was kinda shitty when I was there. Memphis is about an hour or so away.

Now is the time to start cleaning up one's Facebook as well. I would even consider deactivating your Facebook account until after recruitment is finished.

PS According to this, Registration opens on May 8th:
http://www.olemiss.edu/orgs/panhelle...ing_Greek.html

Time to get to work getting everything organized.

Amen to what Tippiechick & CutiePie2000 said too!

Memphis has really good shopping! It's about an 1 1/2 hours away! Germantown and Cordova are really close too and have great shopping. Tupelo is okay and they do have some more choices but not as many as Memphis.

I do like Tippie's suggestion to go ahead and buy a nice white dress. There will be plenty around this summer to pick from and come October when you have formal pledging and then initiation (most likely in January) there won't be as many choices! So definitely pick up a white dress now. It doesn't have to be formal either.

Granted that I am only a dad lane swerving a bit, but deactivating a facebook account for six months because an incoming freshman is going to be a PNM at the University of Mississippi is a little over the top.

Most accomplished high school seniors have clean facebook accounts.

However, I agree that if the PNM has issues with their past friends, etc., then deactivation should be considered.

Putting your profile on private may do just as good of a job. At the very least-- edit it. If in doubt, don't post that status or picture.

If you wouldn't show it to your mother, take it off your facebook.

THIS. Seriously, I look at what girls in my own chapter have up...don't they want to get jobs one day? Sorry for the derailment but OP I would absolutely deactivate starting the week or so before rush until after bid day. Before then, it never hurts to turn off your tagged pictures and make sure you're not a fan of embarrassing stuff (like I don't know "i LoVe tO gEt BlAckoUt dRuNk) because sometimes even people you aren't friends with can see your fan pages.

Yes. You are lane swerving.

If you haven't rushed at Ole Miss or you don't have extremely accurate information on rush at UM, please refrain from giving inaccurate advice.

Setting to private may not work. What about friends-of-friends? There are times that I am able to click on photos, etc. b/c someone hasn't totally taken care of the friends-only thing.

If I was to rush all over again at Ole Miss, I would most certainly deactivate my main account. I would create a totally new shadow account during the summer leading up to rush week...

Deactivating your FB account is not a big undertaking here. You just click deactivate, enter your password, enter the little anti-spam code and boom, you're done. The next time you log in, it's reactivated again.

Anyhow, all of the women so far have backed me up, so I stand behind what I said. If someone wants to go Greek, I wouldn't chance having a Facebook incident jeopardize things.

Also, if someone is intending to go through NPC Recruitment at (arguably) the most competitive Greek system in the USA, and they're coming to "Greek Chat" to seek advice from a bunch of random strangers in the Internet, that does not bode very well for their outcome.

Girls who wind up in the most sought after houses don't come to GC looking for advice, because they know what they're doing.
