Cinderella: This house was very high energy and the first girl I talked to had the same name as me, but there were points in the conversation that felt fake and forced to the point where i literally could not think of anything to keep it going, and when another girl came over, the two of them talked to each other more than to me. I was impressed by the number of activities these girls do though.
Belle: This house was one of my favorites from what I had learned first semester, and first round was also a blast! The girls were really sweet and friendly, and their energy really helped make it fun This is definitely one of my favorites!
Ariel: This house was my absolute favorite going in to the day, and first round didn't disappoint. All of the girls seemed very genuinely friendly and I got to ask them about their chapter activities and sisterhood events which they seemed very excited to talk about. The time went so quickly at this house!
Sleeping Beauty: This house has the reputation of being the awkward house, and i kind of got that vibe last semester, but the girl i talked to was very nice, though a little bit shy. I was doubled up with another girl and I feel like we ended up talking more to each other than to the sister, but the conversation felt relatively relaxed.
Pocahontas: This house really surprised me. I hadn't been extremely interested before, but their sisterhood presentation was awesome and the conversation I had was like one I would have with a really good friend. The girls I talked to seemed very interested in what I was saying, and I found a lot in common with these girls. I really could see myself becoming friends with these girls, and I left loving the house.
Jasmine: This house was just okay for me. I had some decent conversations, but they kept moving us between rooms and bumping quite a bit, so I didn't really stay in any one place with any one girl for long. I ended up talking about my home state more than anything else, but maybe I was just tired since it was my last round of the day.
Nala: I. Loved. This. House. The girls I talked to were so nice and sociable, and we got to talk about tv shows and classes and majors but in a rally natural and exciting way. There was not a single dull moment of conversation, and their presentation really showed their strong sisterhood. I did not want to leave this house!
Alice: I didn't like this house as much as I thought I would. I know a couple girls in this house who are really nice, but I didn't see any of them. Their sisterhood presentation was really cool and seemed so genuine, but my conversations were very cookie-cutter and forced, and the girl I was matched up with barely let me ask any questions.
Mulan: This house was not nearly as awkward as i expected. The presentation was adorable and the girl who picked me up and I talked about disney (ironic, no?). We had a lot in common and the other girls I met were really nice, though kind of loud, but the conversations weren't quite as good as the first ones. I still wasn't sure if I could see myself in this house.
Esmeralda: This house was one of my favorites before the round, but my conversations were just okay. I think the problem was that their very obvious bumping (every girl used the same phrase) distracted me from the conversation and prolonged the subjects until i was beating them to death. Still, the girls were very nice and I did like this house.
at the end of the day we had to pick 7 we love, and then rank the remaining 3 in order of preference.

It's really interesting to read how people's perceptions about particular groups change, based on their experiences. I don't read a ton of these stories, but I do enjoy reading when PNMs make positive discoveries about different groups. It's refreshing to hear!

Hey! Sorry I haven't updated in a bit, I'm trying to keep this not completely live just in case. So day 2 we could be invited back to max of 7. I got my schedule and I had
Belle
Sleeping Beauty
Pocahontas
Jasmine
Alice
Mulan
I was very disappointed to not see Ariel or Nala and a bit disappointed not to see Esmeralda. I wasn't surprised that Cinderella wasn't there (my conversations were THAT awkward), but I was surprised to see Alice since I didn't really feel a connection. But I was excited about Belle and Pocahontas and excited to give Jasmine another try, so I decided to shake off the disappointment and focus on the fact that 6 houses DID want me back whereas many of my friends were only invited back to 3 or 4 of their least favorites.
Pocahontas: Once again I fell in love with this house. Their philanthropy is one of my favorites and very close to my heart. We made a cute little craft and my conversations were just as good as the day before. All of the girls remembered my name when they left to go meet other PNM's, and I felt very at home. I never expected to like this house so much.
Mulan: Once again, this house surprised me by being likeable. Their activity was more interactive and made it easy to talk to the girls. The girls I talked to were for the most part very tall and blonde, definitely the opposite of the negative stereotype, and the conversation was natural. I still wasn't sure if I could see myself as a sister here, but I had a good time.
Alice: I talked to the same exact girls that I talked to yesterday (I was the only one who had this happen), and once again the conversation was just okay. Their craft was cute but their philanthropy wasn't one that I was super excited about.
Belle: This was one of my favorite houses, so I was glad to be asked back, but I can't help but think it was only because of a certain rule. I still tried my very hardest and tried to be as social and engaging as possible, but I know from the other day's cuts that conversation is not everything. I did have good conversations and met a lot of sisters, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed to be asked back.
Jasmine: I was a little surprised to be asked back here, but it was a pleasant surprise. I got picked up by a girl I had talked to the first round, and I also talked to a girl I had met first semester which put me more at ease. My first few conversations were great but the last girl and I had some awkward pauses, and she seemed confused that i was actually doing the craft. I liked this house a lot more though and hope to go back
Sleeping Beauty: I really was not looking forward to this house, but it actually was not bad at all. I enjoyed doing the craft and the girl I talked to was extremely pretty, something I didn't expect at the "ugly" house. She was very social and she and i knew a lot of the same people, so we found stuff to talk about. I still didn't quite feel a connection with the house though.
At the end of the day we had to rank 5 houses on top, and then if we had more, we had to rank them in order of preference so my list ended up

I'm so nervous after the first round of cuts to see the next one, but I'm hoping for the best!

Well. I have a disappointing ending. When I got my schedule today I had
Alice
Mulan
Sleeping Beauty
Needless to say, i was devastated and broke down crying as all 7 of my favorite chapters had been cut in this process. I wanted to withdraw this morning but my greek ambassador told me to go to the entertainment round skits (I'm not supposed to know her affiliation, but I know she's in Mulan). I went, because I've read stories on here about people magically falling in love with a chapter and realizing that it's absolutely for them, but this didn't happen tonight even though I tried really hard. Yes the themes were cute, but I didn't feel the click or the connection with any of them. I filled out my p-card (even though max was 5 and I couldn't rank), but on the way to fill it out I heard the ends of door chants from the chapters I was cut from that I felt such a connection with, and I knew that if I joined one of my remaining chapters, I would never be completely happy, as closed-minded as that may sound. It's not even about reputation or necessarily conversations, just the feel I got from each house, and none felt quite right the way some like Pocahontas did. So now i'm extremely upset and it was a difficult decision to make, but after filling out my p-card I chose to withdraw from recruitment and I will proably try informal in the fall or formal again next spring. Not quite the ending I expected

This might sound weird, but I applaud you. You didn't just drop when you got your schedule, you went to the events and then followed your heart.
I know some might say, "oh you should have stayed and given them another chance", but the reality is, we aren't you and we don't know how you feel, we just know what you feel by what you post.
Good luck with informal!

I think I know where you are in school, and it is a competitive recruitment with lots of tough cuts. However, there are tons of other ways to get involved, and greek life is by no means the only activity on campus. Going through as a sophomore will be a severe disadvantage on this campus. Be sure to get involved in other things and meet greek women so that your chances might improve, should you decide to go through again. Best of luck to you!
