The last few days have been crazy – crazy good though!

I have decided to name the houses after (what else) Pac 10 football teams. I can tell you that after we ranked the chapters on the first day, I got a full schedule of ten for house tours. The houses I got back were:

Huskies
Cougars
Ducks
Beavers
Cardinals
Bears
Trojans
Bruins
Sundevils
Wildcats

Huskies: I was really excited to come back here. This was definitely one of my favorites after open house. The girls are all gorgeous and I felt like the conversation flowed effortlessly. It’s a little intimidating since it seems like this house is everyone’s favorite but I am still hopeful for an invite back.

Cougars: A cool modernish house, different from a lot of the traditional houses we saw. The girls here seem very smart and super involved in everything. They have won a bunch of awards and also won a lot of campus competitions. The conversation was a little lacking though, but I would love to give them another shot.

Ducks: Loved this house too – very classy and put together. I talked with a girl who studied abroad which is definitely something I want to do. Top of my list.

Beavers: I loved the energy here. You could tell they were excited to have us all but they weren’t acting crazy like a lot of the girls were. One of the tops in grades and their philanthropy is SOOO cool. I would love to have an invite back here.

Cardinals: The first two girls I was paired with were a little awkward, but the third was so cute and friendly. Still, I felt that I would not fit in here, but would like to give them another chance. This is one of my high school friend’s favorite houses, so maybe I am missing something?

Bears: LOVE LOVE LOVE. The house is beautiful, the girls are amazing. The girls in this house seem like what I aspire to be and would love to have an invite back here.

Trojans: After having a not so good time here on the first day, I was pleasantly surprised by my time here this round. I was paired with a girl who has the same major I am planning to study and their philanthropy is personally meaningful to me. Also, this is my aunt’s house and I know she loved her time spent here.

Bruins: I felt so lucky to be invited back here since this is another one of my group’s favorites. The girls are super nice, and I was paired with an athlete. I am a club tennis player, so I was very interested to hear about the sorority and how she managed her time. It seems like the sorority is very supportive of athletes which was nice to hear.

Sundevils: Energy very lacking and I did not like the girl I was matched with. I was with her the whole time which was kind of awkward and she also did not look me in the eye, but over my shoulder the whole time. I would not care to return here.

Wildcats: Heard some tent talk about this house but when I went there I did not know where the rumors came from. Cute sweet girls, but when I asked about studying I got a lot of blank stares. Not sure if I would fit in here.

I ended up ranking them:

Huskies
Bruins
Ducks
Beavers
Bears
Trojans
Cougars
Cardinals
Wildcats
Sundevils

As an Oregon alum, I have to cheer for Ducks. Good luck.

I am thrilled to report that I was lucky enough to get a full schedule of 6 for philanthropy day! A few of my friends got back 3, 4, and 5 and there were some tears in our room.

I returned to:
Huskies, Bruins, Ducks, Beavers, Trojans, and Cougars!

Beavers: After this party they went to the top of my list. I loved the girls I was paired with and the party was so cute. Tons of energy and good emphasis on academics, which is one of my concerns about college (balancing social life and studying).

Huskies: Probably the best party of the day. Still intimidating though, the girls are so beautiful and accomplished. I would love to come to preference here. But would I really fit in or am I just flattered that they keep inviting me back? Not sure at this point.

Trojans: I really wanted to love this house for my aunt, but this party made it easy to put them at the bottom of my list. I just didn’t have anything in common with the girls I talked to.

Ducks: Again, LOVE them. Conversations were effortless, I felt like I was talking to my best friends. We had real conversations, not just surface. This one girl and I literally laughed the entire time. I would love to return here but I heard that heavy cuts come just before preference. I'm almost scared to like them too much.

Bruins: A bit of a disappointment, I talked to one person the whole time. Not sure if that was supposed to happen but I am worried that I didn’t get to meet enough girls. I would like an invite back but if I don’t get one I won’t be too heartbroken.

Cougars: Another disappointment. I talked to a girl who I went to middle school with and she did not remember me, so I felt really stupid. Pretty sure this is not a match.

I put down:
Huskies
Ducks
Beavers
Bruins
Trojans
Cougars

Okay, guess I'll finish my story even though it's not that exciting LOL!

Preference!
I am again ecstatic to report that I was invited to preference at my top three! Breathe big sigh of relief (although I know from reading GC that this did not in any way guarantee a bid for me!) I knew at this point I would be so happy to call any 3 of these my home.

Here’s how preference went down:
Huskies: I was hosted by my favorite Husky that I had met here. The ceremony was so emotional and classy and you can tell how much Huskies mean to the girls. I am slightly embarrassed to say I cried here but hey what can I say, I’m a crier.

Beavers: I was hosted here by someone I had met but didn’t know as well as some of the other girls in the house. The ceremony was very pretty and again, you can just tell how much the sorority means to the girls in the house. I did look around at the other PNMs in the room (thanks again to GC for this tip) and felt like maybe I wouldn’t fit in with them as much as the PNMs at Huskies.

Ducks: Uh oh I am in trouble. Their preference ceremony was gorgeous as well and my absolute favorite Duck preferenced me. I cried here as well and then I couldn’t look my girl in the eye as we were leaving because I was not sure who I would put first. Another thing that I noticed was that a good number of the same PNMs who were at Huskies were here too.

I AGONIZED about my ranking but I ended up ranking them in this order:
Huskies
Ducks
Beavers

BID DAY

I couldn’t sleep the night before bid day I was so excited and nervous. I’m not sure how my school handles bidless girls but I did not recieve the dreaded phone call. So I knew I had a bid somewhere. Was it Huskies? Was it Ducks? Was it Beavers? Again, I knew I’d be happy at any of the three….
I opened by bid card and it said

DUCKS!!!!
Otherwise known as KAPPA ALPHA THETA!!! Even though it was (BARELY) my second choice I knew it was where I belonged! I LOVEEEEE my new member class!! THETA LOVE
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed my story!
Huskies was Pi Beta Phi and Beavers was Delta Gamma. I haven’t heard officially yet about quota (30?) so I don’t know if everyone made it or not but everyone looked really happy on Bid Day.
