Oh there are some memories right there! I remember that, in junior high, kids used to alter the Pee Chee logo to say something racy ("racy" being relative, considering this was junior high).

Pref Night

Haha it’s easy to know the outcome when you know how to find me on Facebook FYI- a good friend from high school that was going through with me went Chi O so congrats on a great new sister!

Now.. IM SO SORRY to keep you waiting but I’ll finish up. We were supposed to start prefs at 4:30, but ended up being held in the parking garage till nearly 7 due to rain. It was an adventure, charter buses dropping girls off at each house on the row, rain coats and umbrellas everywhere, doing attendance in house vs on the lawn.. it was CRAZY.

So crazy, I didn’t even get to see my Rho before the night started. She called and told me my first party and instructed me to get the rest of my schedule from an Exec member. Glue was up first and I was pretty excited. I had time before the party and decided to find an Exec.

Paper and Pencils stayed off my list, but Markers was gone instead of Folders. I didn’t mind not going back to Folders, but Markers had been neck and neck as my favorite with Glue all week. So I was a little hurt. But I knew Glue, Folders, and Backpack made a great schedule, so on I went.

Paper- Pi Beta Phi
Pencils- Alpha Epsilon Phi
Markers- Tri Delta

I was pretty surprised when my party at Glue started because I had expected to be paired with someone I had met earlier in the week and I didn’t. It worked out great though, my rusher was WONDERFUL. She took me to her room and we talked about how she grew up close to me and used to play my school in sports. We got along great, so great we didn’t even quit talking long enough for her to show me her scrapbook she had made. About half way through the party we went downstairs to see part of their ritual. I don’t think it would be right to go in to detail but I will say it was one of the most touching things I’ve seen. Sisters all around the room were crying and you could see how much they meant to each other. My rusher and I were both crying as we left and I KNEW this is where I wanted to end up. I was so touched I cried all the way to my next party at Folders.

This party was nice. I got to see three girls I had met earlier in the week. We chatted and they introduced me to a new sister who I got along with nicely as well. We talked a little about their ritual and then moved into a bigger room to see part of it. It was simple and sweet. I felt bad because I had really grown to like these girls and knew I would love to be friends with them in the future but I just didn’t feel closeness with them the way I did Glue.

Backpack. I was matched with the sister I had met the night before and she was as sweet as ever. She had made a scrapbook and showed me her memories from her first year of sisterhood and talked very fondly of her sisterhood. I felt a little awkward because we hadn’t found that relatable ground like I had in my previous parties. We were still more on a question/ answer bases than a conversation one. When we went in to see their ritual it was very nice and you could see that the sisters meant a lot to one another but for some reason I felt more disconnected from them than any other night. I couldn’t see myself here at all.

So at the end of the night I ranked my houses.
Glue
Folders
Backpack

Trapper Keepers are the binders with the velcro flap over the edge to "trap" your papers and whatever else inside.

Sorry to not update when we actually started recruitment yesterday, but we basically just had an hour long meeting that told us what we would do all week and met our Rho Gamma’s mine is insanely awesome and I am pretty excited to be with her and see which chapter she belongs to Saturday.

On to today.. we would be spending 25 minutes at each of the 10 sororities. In the morning we met up and wasted no time learning the entry song for the first house (you have to sing back in forth before you “earn” your way in, way fun and a little unexpected)

My first house was Scissors. I had a class with a few of these girls and know about their philanthropy and involvement. They were one of the houses I had most looked forward to seeing. I was double rushed by one girl and then bumped to another. Both were very nice and we could talk but I didn’t feel a strong pull towards them.

Next was Glue. I didn’t have a huge impression of these girls, good or bad, before coming into recruitment. They were a very pleasant surprise. They had so much energy for it to only be 10ish in the morning and their songs were so cute. I was placed with one girl who I felt very natural with and was later bumped to another. They both told me I was making their job so easy and we chatted about school, football, shopping, and dresses. I left excited to see this house again.

After that was Paint. My best friend is a Paint at another campus and I know she loves it, but based solely on today I don’t feel great about them. I was again double rushed and even though I can easily talk and make conversation, my rusher seemed much more focused on the other PNM. We took a tour of their house which was cool and then moved on.

Markers was probably the house I was most excited to see just because I could expect to see a familiar face. Even though I wanted to see my friend I didn’t expect to fit in with this house. When we began chanting I was SHOCKED how loud they were. This house had so much energy and excitement. They all looked great and I was excited to start this party. I was bumped between four girls, which I don’t know if that is a bad sign (?), but I loved all of them. They were fun and genuine and I didn’t want to leave.

Paper. This house was very homey and the girl I was matched with was cute and friendly and we got along well. Nothing spectacular, but nice. My rusher did try to talk religion a little and it put me off but I still have a positive view of this house.

Pencils. I know this house is very new to UCF and are smaller than others due to age but most of us were triple rushed and it was very hard. The house looked great and the girls seemed nice, but at the end of the day I feel I didn’t know my rusher and she didn’t know me.

Folders. This was a house I was pretty excited about and had to sike myself back up for since it was 2:30ish by now and beginning to rain. The girl I was matched with seemed nice and funny at first. We talked about the weird smell in the house (it belongs to a fraternity) and had some laughs over it but she soon took the convo to one of the 3 B’s and it just made me uncomfortable. We stayed friendly and kept up convo until the end of the party.

Backpack. Not much to say, they were very nice and I really enjoyed them. I met two sisters and look forward to seeing them again but nothing amazing happened here today.

Binders. My rusher at this house was obviously exhausted and had a hard time making or keeping conversation. I tried but wasn’t much help. It was pretty awkward. She bumped me to a girl I liked and made a point to come back and say bye. Even so, I just couldn’t see myself there.

Last was Crayons. It seemed every girl going through wanted Crayons and I could see why. When we entered the house the girls are gorgeous and personable. My rusher seemed so genuine and we never had awkward breaks in our conversation. She then took me on a tour of the house, which is gorgeous, and we continued talking. By the time we were done the party was over. It was nice because I learned a lot about her, but I left wondering if she learned about me?

We then left and met our Rho Gammas and headed to the Comp Lab to do our first “Cut with Interest”. I had no difficulty, all the chapters had shown me a good time but I just knew which two weren’t for me, so I declined
Folders
Binders

Tomorrow we will be back at 10:15 and will receive our schedules. Over all it was a great day I met so many great girls and am a lot more confident in myself now that the first day is over, but I am a little disappointed. There are tons of gorgeous girls, who through tent talk, sound like they only want my top choices because of their house or looks. I know it will be very hard if these girls get bids to them while I get cut.. but only time will tell.

For now I am exhausted. Hopefully I will have enough energy to update again tomorrow! Thanks for reading!
