Well at my school, a sorority will put it out there for you at recruitment , but if that's not the case, I'd say while going over membership obligations.
Yea, that seems like it would make the most sense (letting the women know before they make a commitment).
Yep yep yep, and for my sorority it helps to talk about it. Our dues are a little more than some others, but it includes things like our badge and formals which some other organizations have to pay for out of pocket
This is definetly true, and they should tell you sometime during the open house rounds.
In general, all advice given on this site should be taken with a grain of salt because all schools/chapters/greek systems are unique and what is true for one may or may not be true for another. I can only speak to what I have expierenced at my school and at my school it is improper to ask about dues during recruitment.
Dues were also not mentioned during rush at my school.
Before registration started, Greek Life mailed us a book about rushing and it listed the range of dues and living expenses for sorority life. I am betting that A&M's website has something similar.
When I lived in my chapter house, room and board plus dues was several hundred dollars less than living in the dorms, but every school is different. Keep in mind too that most chapters with houses REQUIRE that members live in for a specified period of time. At my school it was a year, but I lived in for 3.
