drinknNole: I give you major kudos for expressing your opinion and your reasons.
Several fraternities on our campus have decided to go dry. On my campus, this has posed somewhat of a problem b/c the dry houses often have functions with other Fraternities (w/"wet" houses). For example, our bid day for Frats is widely based on partying all day and night, and drinking is "encouraged" (but not forced, even to Pledges who choose not to drink). It's fun to have another Frats join us at the KA house and party with a new group of people and welcome all new Brothers. But this also brings added liability for the KA house (or whomever the host house is) and it's members. This past Rush, Kappa Alpha decided to decline sharing it's Bid Day party with ATO (the two Frats have had this party together for as long as I can remember). KA's weren't trying to be tacky but it proved to be too much responsibility for them to have so many drinkers at their house. This kinda sucked b/c it had become tradition and ATO was forced to have their party out in the boonies on someone's land. And we all kinda missed having them there.
I do beleive that Frats aren't BASED on drinking. I mean, these guys are still your Brothers when you are sober, right? And for all those who don't drink, isn't a party more fun when there are drunks to make fun of? Now that's another thread....

As far as Tailgating goes, we are fortunate to have a campus whose PARKING LOT is not dry. The whole community comes out to this large lot before football games. All Fraternities can bring coolers and local bars and gas stations GIVE AWAY beer. Everyone is individually responsible for underage drinking. It has become a really big event. People bring RV's, there is a biggo stage w/a band and, of course, plenty of tailgates to sit on.

33 Girl,
In a perfect world, I could agree with almost everything you say. Unfortunately, we're the ones under the microscope, and the problems of insurance and liability are real and will not go away.
It's may not be fair, but it is fact.

PS Statistics (for whatever they're worth) show that Greeks DO drink more -- particularly "binge" drinking than the average college student. I probably did.

Here's the bottom line. Drink responsibly and don't drink and drive. I had a friend who was in a fraternity die b/c he was driving drunk and I've also had a friend lose his license over a DUI. You live and learn. Have fun and party hard but do it responsibly!

I can't believe you guys! Here's this guy that may superficially appear to have a good point. And if being against drying housing was all the was being implied here, I would agree 100%. But that's not all he's implying. He's implying that brotherhood/sisterhood, can only be found at the bottom of a bottle. He's saying that all "cute sorority girls" are good for is cleaning and eye candy. He's insulting sororties by saying that dry fraternity houses are nothing more than sorority houses -- what the h*ll is that supposed to mean? I have never seen a thread on here that devalued women so much! Not to mention that fact that he is devaluing fraternities, reducing them to nothing more than a bunch of guys who love to drink and f%ck sorority girls. I'm sorry, I've been sucked in, I got p$ss@d off, so... DrinknNole, I hope you're happy. And I hope other men in your fraternity have more respect for themselves, their houses, and their Greek sisters than you do.
Oh, and ZTA... you may get to learn, but you don't always "live", as you stated with your friend who died.

True that prdlocal, on my part at least! Sometimes it is too late to "live and learn."
