Yeah, shit, I completely misread that part - agreed, I don't see why we don't go whole-hog . . . if the point holds for Cuban-Americans, why not for everyone?

Just like I said...gotta crawl before you walk.
I think it's a "let's see what happens with the Cubans first before we open the doors for everyone else" attitude.
We have to build up the trust first before some clown with some ambition and gun decides to hijack a plane and fly to America....heh....

Alright fellas, now it's time to do our homework.
Let's not depend on one article to cover this whole topic.
Another article calls it a bit differently thus verifying PhiGam's want for all Americans to be able to go:
Bills in the U.S. House and Senate would effectively allow all Americans to visit. Trips for U.S. citizens with relatives here already got easier last month. Cuban-Americans can now come annually instead of every three years.
and
U.S. travel to Cuba is not illegal, but spending money here is except with special authorization like that for journalists and some businesses. In 2007, the latest figures available, about 40,500 Americans visited the island, most presumably on the sly. Tracking U.S. family visits is difficult since authorities count Cuban-Americans as Cubans.
Just how many U.S. travelers would come if Cuba weren't off-limits is a guess. The American Society of Travel Agents estimated in 2007 that nearly 1.8 million Americans could visit in the first three years after travel rules were loosened.
see the rest here
My guess...Cuba's main income will come from tourism

I agree.
We allow travel to other communist countries - some would say we've allowed a communist country to buy us (*cough*china*cough*). I think the cuba thing is is ridiculous now.

I think it does already, since the rest of the world (and Americans on the sly) go to Cuba all the time.
I've known about 20 Americans who have gone for humanitarian purposes (you have to bring a certain amount of medicine and supplies), or for educational purposes (mainly to look at the architecture).

Cubans are overpriced/ rated. I'll take an Ashton over any $7 cuban you can find. And OpusX > Cohiba Esplendido.
