I usually abhor chick lit, but I just finished Bitter is the New Black by Jennifer Lancaster and boy, I DEVOURED it.

I tried to read that once but it seemed so slow at the beginning, did it ever pick up?

My 8th Graders are reading "That Was Then, This Is Now" and my 7th Graders are reading "Freak the Mighty", so I am reading them again (absolutely refused to teach "Hatchet" again - can't stand that book.)

Personally, I am finishing "The Sixth Lamentation". It's about the fallout of the betrayal of an underground group who fought the Nazis in France, set in present day England.

I hate Hatchet, too.

My mom has me read the books she foists on her 3rd graders because then she can rope me into projects. I've read a lot of elementary school books lately. My favorite was Lion Library.

it did pick up, but it took a while. it was a little predictable but otherwise enjoyable. i actually really like her writing style, but i guess the book itself wasn't grabbing me.

Jen Lancaster is probably one of my favorite authors! Like you, I too hate chick lit but her books are hilarious. Bright Lights, Big Ass is my favorite of hers.

I'm trying to get through Steve Coll's Ghost Wars but it's taking forever.

I saw Wicked with a good friend of mine. She read the book afterwards and found it very weird and difficult to read. It's not just you!

This sounds really good so I may have to read it. I am currently reading "Through A Glass Darkly" by Karleen Koen (1986-an oldy but goody). I recently finished "Rhett Butler's People" which is the second sequel to "Gone With The Wind." It is much better than the first sequel, "Scarlett." I would recommend both of these books, but not the "Scarlett." They are historical but they are also rather long (500+ pages).

I just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini (the same guy who wrote The Kite Runner). It was fantastic.
