Sunny, congratulations from a Ventura County neighbor. Being familiar with the junior college system here, I would think there would be a fair number of juniors going through rush, as so many people transfer after doing two years of j.c.
Sounds like you have a great attitude. I did not know the Greek system was so active at UCSB but I am glad to hear it.
Have a great rush and keep us posted!

Second round
Two days down, two to go! I actually think I had way more fun today at philanthropy/house tour day than I did yesterday.
First I went to sigma kappa, which is an alright house, but I didn't really click with any of the girls, although I was still super nice and friendly of course. A lot of girls here are very aloof and untalkative at houses they aren't interested in, but that's just so against my nature. Besides, it would be silly to make the 40 minutes unbearable for both yourself and the poor girl trying to rush you. So I'm just nice to everyone! Life is just so much more pleasent that way..
.But anyway, next was Alpha Phi. They had a golfing theme, with all the girls in skirts and polos. Instead of a craft, they set up a miniature gold course. Every time a girl scored a hole in one, they donated a dollar to their philanthropy. I was the first one in my group and I MADE IT!! I was extremely excited The 3 girls who rushed me were great and all my friends in the house talked to me. I feel so at home there; it's wonderful.
Next was Theta, another of my favs. There we made tote bags for kids in foster care. I'm extremely artistice, and absolutely love philanthropy work and crafts, so this whole day was just right up my alley! So I got way into the whole puffy paint thing, and made an awesome bag with flowers on it...I used paper towels as paint brushes so it looked painted rather than puffy painted...very very cool. Girls were coming up to me the whole time I was on the house tour telling me how impressive it was. And I was so glad, because I know one of the hardest things is making yourself memorable, which I definitely accomplished at Theta. The president and rush chair even made a point to come find me! The first girls I talked to was a sophmore and kinda hesitant, but the other two, and especially the last girl I LOVED talking to!
After Theta was ADpi, my roommate's house. I really really like the girls there, and met two more great ones. I've partied and hung out with a lot of them, so our conversations are definitely more relaxed, even with the ones I don't really know. The only reservation I have with ADpi is that they've had a problem with deactivation...I don't want to broadcast their problems on a board though...if you'd like me to explain my concerns further, or perhaps you'd like to offer advice..email me. We made magnets for the ronald mcdonald house...all the girls were in red and yellow, which was so bright and cheery! And for refreshments they had their "house favorites", Water with cucumber and mint (sounds weird but very good), mango iced tea, little muffins, and chocolate covered strawberries...YUMMY!
Next was AEphi, which is very small at my campus. Although they're a close knit group of girls, once again, I didn't feel like I clicked, and I think I'd prefer the diversity and higher activity of a bigger house.
Folowing that was Pi Phi. I was suprised that I was invited back here, but i guess I made a better impression than I thought. All the girls that rushed me came up to me to say how glad they were to see me there, and how excited they were that I came back. I think I heard that a million times, but it definitely made me feel special! And the girls I talked to this time I clicked with amazing well. One girl was so much like me that it was kinda scary! I really really REALLY enjoyed their party, much more than I thought I was going to! And their house is absolutely gorgeous...decorated to perfection, and with a HUGE backyard which is a major selling point with me!
The last house I went to was Gamma Phi. I can tell the girls thre really liked me, but I'm not really that interested. I'm not sure why, because the girls are extremely nice, but I just didn't get the feeling like "Wow, this is somewhere I want to be!!" And I feel kinda bad, because it's my legacy...actually I was telling two girls the story about how my granfather was ATO's social chair, and he married my grandma, who was in Gamma Phi, and one of the girls actually got all teary. It is an adorable story, but whoa! I thought she was really cute though.
So now I am extremely happy with Alpha Phi, ADpi, Theta, AND Pi Phi!! Hopefully, I get invites back to all of those...I'm crossing my fingers!! I can go to up to 4 houses tomorrow, so that would be absolutely perfect. I'm tryig not to get my hopes up too far though, cause this is one of the harsher cuts because they have to drop over half the girls. I pick up my invites at 7am AGAIN (eeeewwwwwww!) and the parties go from noon till 4. I'll post after I get back. Wish me luck!

Becca--WOW, it sounds like you are doing such a great job in rush!! Thanks so much for all the details and remember, go with your heart! It is neat that you are a legacy to Gamma Phi, but maybe it is time to start your own legacy!! GOOD LUCK and keep us posted. And just a sidebar--my grandmother was an Alpha Phi and really wanted me to be one, but they weren't at my school, so I will put in a little plug for Alpha Phi! But my heart belongs to AOTT. Keep smiling!!
