i took this to be at least some sense of recognition that a lot of blacks who worked in the white house/early government did not receive. maybe the author didnt mean it in the sense that i got it, or im a sucker for a man losing the love of his life, either way i liked the story!
I have problems with the "I'm black, so I get to define racism." but I understand your point. Disagree, but I understand. I also appreciate your willingness to disagree without personal attacks.

I too found it to be a touching, poignant story. But racist.

Different people, different opinions.

i am a really laid back person so usually unless its blatant (a noose in a tree, the N word, etc), i completely ignore things that would be considered racist...that is how racists win. there is NO way i can define racism for other blacks, its just more what i take as a personal affront. i have family members that would take someone saying something is racist as being racist (???) so i guess over the years i try to look at the positive side of things!

How is it racist? I didn't find anything in that story that even approached racism.

Nice read. A little long, but well worth it.

I like the story but the ending was sad. Still, I'm glad I read it. Thanks for posting it.

Interesting how you haven't been able to explain what is racist about the story.

I don't see anything racist about it. I think it was an interesting story

Great and touching story.

I chuckled at their comment about the Carters. I guess they were "keeping it real" in the White House. lol
