Um, yeah, no. Just no...
This is not sad news. Sad news is a puppy being burned. This is not even news, peeps. This is a doll.
*ducks as all the strange doll-loving, cosplay folks barrage me with how important their dolls really are*

Anyone need a Halloween costume idea? Cosplay your favorite American Girl doll!
(And if you don't look like any of them, just say you're an American Girl of Today.)

Samantha is the only AG doll I ever got, and she has always been my favorite! It's sad to see her ending....I wish I had collected more of her accessories.

Hahaha...yes I feel you on that. I believe I was a semi-fan of American Girl books when I was in 4th/5th grade, but i've definitely outgrown that. I wasn't even aware that they made dolls.

Oh, I knew. I just came in here to witness the strangeness.
BTW, I think Scandia has already taken your cosplay-the-American-Girl-for-Halloween idea many times over. lollers!

I was a Samantha fan as well- she was my one & only AG doll, mostly because she looked like me.
It makes me sad too.

I feel bad that I can't even sympathize. My mom never bought me any doll/book except for Addy, so I have no idea about the other girls. I don't like seeing anything good end though.

I thought that the company went bankrupt, or that one of them got knocked up by a Star Wars figure or something.

They were bought out by Mattel.
It's sad in the context of dolls - or maybe, just as the end of what was a part of many girls' childhoods. I'm wistfully sad, because my eldest (who also looked like Samantha) so loved her doll and books. I'm not sad in the same sense I will be on Nov. 5th.

Felicity was one of my favorites, too. She had that pretty blue dress.
It's really sad that I still have every one of the AG books (well, the first couple of series up to Molly, I think). I guess I've just been holding out until I have a daughter.

oh i remember AG! I had all the Addy books. I was in B&N a couple christmases back and saw a hardcover edition of all the books in one and the pages had gold edges. it was magical. i bought it, reread all the stories in one night. then i gifted it to my mentee (at the time) and now she's hooked!
--insert aww's here--
p.s. i hope Mattel doesnt royally eff this up.

Do you mean the founder Pleasant Rowland? She went to Wells College in Aurora, NY which I do not believe has ever had sororities. She sold to Mattel in 1998.
Ellen Brothers is the current president of American Girl and executive vice president of Mattel, as well as a member of Mattel’s management committee. She graduated from U of Illinois. And is listed on the Alpha Gam website as a member of the Sigma chapter!!

This is sad for me. I don't know if anyone knows but there were American Girl fashion shows. My grandmother took me to my first fashion show when I was five and my favorite picture of my grandmother was the Samantha model, my grandmother and me dressed like Samantha. When I was older, I was in a few of the shows as a Girl of Today and Samantha. She was my favorite doll even though I had four or five of them. I lost interest in the company a few years after Mattel bought it. I disliked most of the new girls. Has it really been a decade? I still have all the dolls and all the books for my daughters if I have any.
I am a little sad about it just because I had a personal connection.
