confusion...
Sister Sorors
Maybe the conflict existed because Alpha Phi was not chartered at Howard until April 28, 1939. I know there are other SGRho chapters in the area, but I don't know when they were chartered. But I do know the NPHC was chartered first at Howard U, my alma mater.

I had to dig up some of my Sigma stuff, but here we go.
From our historical archives:
Sigma Gamma Rho, one of the organizers of the Pan-Hellenic Council, voluntarily withdrew its membership at the Sixth Boule (1930), to meet the campus chapter quota as prescribed by the Constitution drawn up by the NPHC. It was readmitted 5 February 1937.
Also in the historical archives:
Representatives of Sigma Gamma Rho, Alpha Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta Sororities and Kappa Alpha Psi, Alpha Phi Alpha and Omega Psi Phi Fraternities met in Indianaplis, 27-30 December 1928 to establish a Pan-Hellenic Council.
So they were among the charters, but they voluntarily withdrew because of their own high standards (but of course), then came back in February 1937.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-Yip!!! to my SoRHOrs!!!! [/B]

Sister Soror,
1. Sigma Gamma Rho VOLUNTARILY WITHDREW its membership from the pan because of a CAMPUS CHAPTER QUOTA (meaning the number of total chapters required to join) not met according to the proposed consitution of the Panhellenic Council. Howard U had nothing to do with the quota.
2. SIGMA GAMMA RHO SORORITY WAS READMITTED TO THE PAN HELLENIC COUNCIL (their records state this) ON FEBRUARY 5, 1937. Don't call me a history expert for saying this, but that did happen before 1939.
3. THESE ARE THE FACTS. THERE IS NO CONFUSION ON THE PART OF SIGMA GAMMA RHO SORORITY INC. CONCERNING HER MEMBERSHIP IN OR ROLE AS AN ORGANIZER OF THE NATIONAL PAN-HELLENIC COUNCIL.
4. Why do you, a non-involved party, feel the need to "clear up" Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated history with irrelevant facts? I, like, totally don't get that.

I was going to post it but you beat me to it. It's important that we educate those around us.

Re: I'm confused now... What are you talking about?
Let me first apologize for the misinterpretation of my "perspective" I never for a minute tried to say the SGRhos were confused....I however was VERYconfused...and apparently other members of the NPHC (whose origination was the subject of the post) members were too. The same information that Kelli posted is the same information that I learned. Maybe a more accurate subject title would have been
"misinformed".
Just as an aside, I don't care to clear up your history as you say. The history I was referring to was not SGRho history. It was NPHC history. As everyone knows on these boards, I attended Howard University(where the NPHC was founded), and learning the history of MY fellow Greeks on campus was actually important. So, from your perspective I am a non-involved party. However, from my perspective I am a very involved party, especially since my Sorority was on the charter, and the chapter I mentioned, Alpha Phi is the Sigma Gamma Rho chapter at Howard was chartered at MY college after the founding date of the NPHC.
There was a discrepency in a post based on dates. I put 2 and 2 together and formed my own conclusion. Now clearly you have an insight that only Sigma Gamma Rho has. I stand corrected. Very honestly, I do still find it odd. But nevertheless, if what you have stated is true, so be it. Thanks for the knowledge.(Quite frankly, I would send a note to the NPHC and ask that the information you provided be added to the history...so the rest of us are not giving "misinformation").
I know this thread did not start as a NPHC convo, and I apologize again to the moderators and the topic starter for going off subject, no harm or foul was intended.
I have nothing to add to the stereotypes of your organization. Most of the Sigma Gamma Rho ladies I have met are all cool people.

What I've heard:
We pledge hard.
You have to have a 3.5 or above.
We are stuck-up.
We are education majors/school teachers.

Sorhors,
Some of these stereotypes are just plain silly, however, I have no problem accepting the 3.5 or better because I was a very serious student on the undergraduate and graduate level my grades were all that and more.
I also heard that Sigma Gamma Rhos do everything in secret.
We don't really associate with other on the yard.
We don't party! We are anti-social! (What is up with that one?)

stereotypes
The ones that I have heard of good and bad are:
1. Unattractive.
2. Are the rejects of other sororities (I wasn't aware that there were any other sororities! just kidding!)
3. We run behind kappas.
4. We're all smart.
5. There are only 6 of us on earth.
6. We're really down to earth.
I know that it is all in fun and that everybody gets cracked on, but if i hear one more Sigma Gamma Who joke I just might have to cut somebody! lol!

Hi sorors:
These are the sterotypes that I've heard.
1. That were not "popular" or "respected" by other greeks This one really gets me ticked off. A member from a bglo fraternity told me this. However, he never explained why this was so. (this can be a topic all by itself).
2. We're not as visible as the other organizations.
3. Were small.
4. We don't associate with other organizations, namely frat. (There is a little truth to this in that we're don't jock frat's)
5. We get along with all the other organizations. (this is true)
6. We're to secretative.
7. There are no pretty sgrho's we're all fat and ugly.
8. We're not that well known.
9. We take sorority rejects. (this is another topic in itself).
10. We're hungry for a brother relationship. Mainly Kappa's. (this issue has been discussed ad nauseum)
