I'm furious that there is a bar in Pittsburgh (those Pgh GC'rs, it's the one on Carson st. in South Side with the midget (Casey's I believe)) that flys a Confederate Flag outside on MLK day.

Never heard that they did that. I'd think it would be a bigger deal? Have you seen it in person or just heard rumor of it?

Freedom of speech I guess....

My company cares not to honor MLK.

So, I am at work and everyone else is skiing. :-(

The only thing about MLK Day that pisses me off, is that I don't get the day off work. I do get Presidents' Day, however...

MLK was a great man and deserves to have a day set aside in his honor. So "half the nation shuts down". You'll get your mail tomorrow.

Carnation, pass the popcorn, please...

I'm working today.

I don't think I get another holiday off until Memorial day. Though I may be getting time-and-a-half.

Since Sac State has a 6 week winter break, we would often observe all federal holidays during that time and then actually go to school on President's Day and such. But right now it's still winter break, so the students don't have school for MLK Day anyway.

"Things that piss me off about MLK day" are:

(For those who have the day off)
1) More people don't use the time to give back to the community.
2) More people don't use the time to learn about MLK, Jr. and other great leaders.

I don't think there will be all this entertainment you all are hoping for. I know I personally don't plan on dignifying this person with any long drawn out response and I don't think many other black people in GC will either. We deal with insensitivies like this everyday in REAL life so I could care less what this person thinks. You all have fun.

-And I don't think they should edit the colored comment. You all can see for yourselves the type of crap floating around in the minds of our peers and others in the year 2005.

Enjoy Dr. King's holiday.

No mail = no more work coming for me in the mail. so I'm happy.

I get President's Day off, incidentally.

The malls in WI are all open today.

I have the day off today! The only other holiday I have off is Chrismas Day! (Then again, it probably has more to do with the fact that we're closed every Monday)

I'm pretty pissed because I was planning on doing my taxes today and the irs won't update their e-file site until tomorrow and the libraries and post offices are closed so I can't get a booklet.

Otherwise, I wish we'd have more holidays in a year (particularly if they were paid holidays at work). I'm personally not going to bitch and moan because I had MLK day off in school (though we did day of service, so I didn't really have it off because I was doing community service). In fact, I wish we'd have MORE holidays. How about we have a different day for ALL different presidents and anyone who has ever contributed to the community. Mother Theresa day? I'd go for it.

The fact of the matter is, this holiday may not be important to you but it's important to someone else. I'm Christian, so Hannukuh may not be important to me, but that doesn't mean I don't respect the fact that there are plenty of people in the world who are Jewish and DO find it important.
