It's looking good! I am heading for a seat on the Board of Directors for the Afghan Communicator. I was worried about the time commitment and suggested possibly creating a Board of Advisors/Advisory Board to do research and perform other functions (a great way to get local professionals in the community to come on board!) for the Board of Directors. BUT, I just met with the Chair of the BoD who completely sold me on the idea of the BoD. It's a good time commitment, but it's worth it.

I'm excited about the possibilities. And, I found out that they specifically approached me because of my deep interest in inter/multiculturalism. I was very pleased when she told me that this organization looks for a diverse group to lead the AC because they recognize the benefits. The chairwoman told me about a Jewish board member (who had to resign to care for her newborn) who came with fresh ideas and helped the organization make significant strides. So wONEderful!

ETA: I know they have an "Advisory Committee" but these people aren't as involved with the day to day operation of the org as the Board of Advisors I was talking about. That was just an idea anyway - the name would surely be different.

Good news: The place where I've been temping at just offered me full-time employment today

Bad news, I'll be making less money and will have to get a part-time job to make ends meet

I just got confirmation today that I will be teaching a class at Nyack College. I will also be working in conjunction with another professor who is teaching developmental/remedial English. The students will see her for regular class and then come to me for a "Writing Intensive Lab" which will include learning grammar skills and how to write effectively at the college level. This is a brand new course (in a series of developmental/remedial courses) that is being offered for the first time this fall - as part of the move to become a University.

Also, the other great news is that these two courses could potentially serve as part of my internship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! An internship is required as part of the degree program.

Last Note: I know it's probably silly but I'm really excited...as a professor I get put on SALARY at the College!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!

I've seen a really similar one that Sigma Lambda Beta has, and I think that's what was used here as a model cos it has the numbers 86 on it...could that be switched to 97 through some sort of program?
