The 'littles' arrived at the house and found their designated string...they had to unwind the string which at the end had a 'clue' as to who her 'big' might be. The clues were usually pretty obscure. Later that night we had our reveal...involved candles being blown out similar to tri deezy above.
We did string party. Often, the bigs swapped colors, too, so a little couldn't just say "oh, that's mine"; she had to follow the actual string. It was a blast, and one of my chapter's fondest memories.

I don't know if it was national's call or just the chapter's, but they dropped the tradition because someone might consider it hazing.

I love love love how my chapter does big reveal. The littles are told long in advance that big/little reveal is on a certain day, usually like a Friday night, when it's actually a few days before. They'll come to the house, either for some supposed meeting or ritual or something, and surprise! All the bigs and their families are in a big circle in a room, all holding up sheets so the littles can't see anyone when they're led in and told it's reveal. A sock is left for each little to put on, and her big is wearing the matching sock. Each little has to find her matching sock that is sticking out under the sheets. Once everyone is matched up, we do our favorite chant and then drop the sheets. It's so much fun to do, from both sides

My chapter actually wrote a ritual for our big/little reveal.

I would consider doing the same. Writing a ritual is possibly one of the most inspiring things you can do as an active member of your organization.

It gets you very in-tune with your values and it allows you to have a special bond that you know only the brothers in your chapter will have.

I've seen the matching shirts thing before - it looks really cute.

My favourite reveal (long after I'd got my big sis, and my little sis) was a candlelit circle. Each little sis would have received her last present of big/little week, and inside the card was half of a poem about sisterhood or friendship. She would close her eyes and be led into the centre of the circle, then her big would come stand back to back. The little sister would read the first half, then the big sister would read the last half, then they'd turn around and there'd be much hugging and celebrating. I thought it was super cute.

we did a tshirt thing...it was during sisterhood retreat, they sent the alphas out of the room and gave us shirts that had half of a song title on it we then went into a room where all the bigs were wearing shirts with the other half of the song on it! it was so cute and fun.

probably the only guy on here. But at Delt we have a big brother ceremony specifically written down. It reveals your big and has alot of symbolism in the ceremony as well.
