I think we all saw this coming - but it doesn't make it less tragic. Hope they both can pull this off with dignity.

Acutally, I'm sad that they broke up. I was hoping the rumors were not true. I also think that a lot of it had to do with Jessica becoming the big star that she is and Nick being known as Jessica's husband. Yeah, and Papa Joe....between him and Brandy's mom...
Well, let me go back and wait until Britany wakes up and smells the coffee...

in line at the grocery store every paper had a different view...they are getting a divorce, they are happy together...it is definately only a matter of time.
i am sad about nick and jessica. i wanted them to stay together, although i could see how she could probably be pretty annoying!

During Newlyweds, I predicted that Nick would tire of her. He was so much more down to earth. I remember the episode where he and his buddies had rigged a pully to get a piece of furniture to the upper level of the house and it struck me that most people that rich would just hire someone to do that kind of thing. He seemed very grounded. He did the cooking, kept his stuff picked up, etc. She didn't know how to do laundry or cook and was such a slob and just wanted to hire people to do everything. She spent money like it was water and he seemed more reserved with his money. I think those kinds of differences in expectations and lifestyle are hard to overcome in a marriage. Can you imagine her as a mother? He probably couldn't either.

I wonder why they went through all the trouble of denying the previous rumors if they were just going to cave and admit they're separating so soon afterward?
And yes, I always hate to see people go their separate ways, but it didn't exactly seem like a match made in heaven, did it?

Supposedly Papa Joe timed it to break right before Thanksgiving in hopes that the holiday would overshadow the news.

I think they went through all the denying b/c they were actually trying to salvage the marriage. It seemed very genuine - I don't know that Papa Joe could even influence Nick on this. I think they both really wanted to make it work.
And call me a complete sap - or just really naive - but I thought they were a perfect couple. You don't find many Hollywood girls waiting for marriage. Even more so, you don't find many hunky semi-famous boy band members agreeing to wait with their future wife. I thought that was very unique in this day and age.

Please. That's admirable and all, but it's certainly not enough to make them "the perfect couple." In fact, ultimately it worked against them -- I think everyone knows that the only reason they got married so young was because of sex. They were a horribly matched couple in other respects, she didn't have enough time to grow up before the wedding, he was so condescending to her, and on the whole, they were a pretty terrible couple.

I'd say that's a pretty fair assessment.

I'd have to agree.
They were like a crap load of other couples who let 9-11 effect them and push them to get engaged. Yes, 9-11 was traumatic but rushing into marriage before you are ready because of a terrorist attack isn't the smartest idea. IMPO.
I never understood them as a couple. I think they were definately physically attracted to each other but mentally I think they just couldn't make it work. Nick went to college (I'm not sure if he gradauted or not though) while Jessica graduated high school and that was it. From the Newleyweds you could tell that she wasn't the "brightest bulb in the bunch". And you could see that Nick was getting fed up with her utter stupidity (is this chicken or fish?) and her wasting of the money (spending 800 bucks for 2 bras and 2 panties because she was jealous, spending 2000 on sheets).

I guess I was using perfect very loosely. Not like God's gift to perfection or anything.

He did not graduate, he dropped out his junior year, I believe. I don't think she actually graduated high school. I'm pretty sure I read that she dropped out and got her GED.

Yeah I knew he went to college (for a while) because didn't he play football or something like that?
I would believe she dropped out and got her GED. I'm sure her parents were more interested in putting her singing career ahead of her education.

On on those specials like Driven and THS, they actually played her off as the victim, calling the kids at her HS vicious because they were "jealous" at her rising success. Apparently she was more well liked as a nobody when she didn't sing -- and was even voted homecoming princess as an underclassman.
