Since I'm not a BIG Jada Pinkett fan, I move that Lisa Raye (from the Player's Club and The Source All Access) be Winter's mom. And even if I did like Jada, I think that Lisa would be better suited for the "bad bytch" role. She's all 'tude!!!

Brothers and Sisters
I would also love to see Brothers and Sisters made into a movie, although it deals with events roughly about 10 years ago (the LA rebellion). I used to live in the neighborhood Ms. Campbell references.
It would have to be a period piece, and perhaps on pay cable. I don't see UPN doing it, even though it's a "Black" network.

Good Brothers Looking for Good Sisters by Jawanza Kunjufu--A story about 6 Black men who cannot find a good woman. One is a CPA who owns his own firm, one is a widower whose wife died giving birth to his surviving son; the women love him, but not his son. One is a "nerd" who now dates White women because Black women wouldn't give hime the time of day in high school and college. One is a driver for UPS, one is a Black activist, one is a teacher who has a crush on a women who likes him "as a sister" but dates thugs.
I would LOVE to see a movie based on that.
The Maintenance Man by Michael Baisden (host of "Talk or Walk").
It is actually being made into a movie to be released in 2002 or 2003. Some of the scenes in the book are on the serious XXX tip, though, and that's by the time you get to page 10 of the book. I dunno if those will be in the movie or not. Who knows?
That's just to name a few though. More later.

Don't hate on Jada...
Jada Pinkett-Smith bought the rights to "The Coldest Winter Ever", and I believe she's planning on playing the role. Better her than Lisa Raye, who CANNOT ACT HER WAY OUT OF A PAPER BAG. I'd like to see Jada as Winter's mom rather than Winter, but I'd rather see Jada or ANYBODY WHO CAN ACT play Winter instead of Lisa Raye. Rosario Dawson would be good as Winter.
SANTIAGO NEEDS TO BE PLAYED BY JEFFREY WRIGHT (he played Peoples Hernandez in "Shaft" and was in Ali and played MLK Jr. in HBO's "Boycott").
For the role of the oh so fine Midnight, my vote goes to Mekhi Phifer...maybe Omar Epps would be aiight too. My dream Midnight would be the Minnesota Vikings Randy Moss tho - he just seems like Midnight to me for some reason.
Sista Souljah can play herself, LOL.
I think they're making e. lynn harris' "Invisible Life" into a movie for Showtime or something like that. You know showtime has NO PROBLEM showing homosexual sex. The problem will be FINDING BROTHAS TO PLAY THE ROLES. I read somewhere that Showtime's "Queer as Folk" has been desperately seeking black men to be on the show, but no black men want to play a homosexual (even the ones who ARE homosexual, LOL).
I'd love to see "Kindred" by Octavia Butler made into a movie. Also, "The Wind Done Gone" - I loved it and would love to see it made into a movie.
OH, and the BOMB movie is going to be "My Soul To Keep" by Tananarive Due - Blair Underwood has the rights and is making it into a movie (and is starring as David/Dawit). I don't know when it's going to be released tho.

I agree he would be perfect I think to play Santiago. I can see him in that role now!

This also gets a thumbs up from me, I can't wait to see that movie, because that book as you have stated was the bomb indeed.

Married Men
CT4, I just finished reading Married Men and I enjoyed it. I'm usually not a big fiction reader, but this one surprised me. As I was reading, I had the following people in mind as the main characters (forgive me for not knowing names):
Kyle - Dude who is now on One on One and always plays the sidekick (short, stumpy dude)
Jay - Tall, dark skinned dude who played in The Brothers
Allen - Wimpy dude with the dreds from Best Man
Wil - Radio Raheem
What do you think?

Oops, I didn't mean to say The Brothers. I meant to say The Wood. Tall, dark skinned dude from The Wood.
Ok, I just found out his name: Richard T. Jones and he played Slim.

As a member of the E. Lynn Harris fanclub, I get e-mail updates from the author. I received one last week stating that one of his books (I think Invisible Life) had been picked up for production by one of the major TV networks. (Sorry the details are so sketchy. I deleted the e-mail by accident).

With no doubt, "Colder Winter Ever", is my number one choice.
I would also like to see: "Please, Please, Please", "Tumbling", and "Casting the First Stone (did I get the name right?)"

I have tons since I read so much, however, listed below are my TOP TEN.
1. The Coldest Winter Ever
2. Sister Sister by Eric Jerome Dickey
3. Friends and Lovers by Eric Jerome Dickey (in the works I heard)
4. Cheaters by EJD
5. Milk in My Coffee by EJD
6. Mama by Terry McMillan
7. Scenes of a Sistah by Lolita Files
8. Getting to the Good Part by Lolita Files
9. Your Blues Ain't Like Mine by Bebe Moore CAmpbell
10. Brothers and Sisters by Bebe Moore Campbell
This is NOT even 1/2 my list but I want to hear what you think.

I've read books # 1, 2, 5, & 6 (will get around to buying and reading # 3 & 4), and agree that these should become movies. However, I have my personal preference on who should play the main characters in "The Coldest Winter Ever."
1. Winter- Taral Hicks
2. Ricky Santiaga- Giancarlo Esposito
3. Midnight- Omar Epps, Richard T. Jones, or Mo Chest
4. Mama Santiaga- Khandi Alexander
5. Natalie- Lil' Kim
As for Mama by Terry McMillan, I really have no preference as to who'll play the children, but I think the Mama Mildred Peacock should be played by no other than Millie Jackson!!! She just seems too perfect for the part!
Those are my rays of sunshine. Until next time, people!!!
