I just checked out the California DMV's website for their requirements. Cali requires 7,500 people to apply for the special plates before they will produce them.....

On a semi-unrelated note that Steeltrap will appreciate--

I've also heard if a certain # doesn't maintain the plates year to year ( I heard in CA its 7000 sold each year or something like that)-- the DMV can pull them.

CA's UCLA plate is in danger of going away! No complaints from this USC alum.

Ladies, those AKA plates are so coool!

LOL at the UCLA plate going away. I'm not going to complain either.

Hello ladies!

I think those plates are very cool. I wish AXO had them!

But I was just wondering...do you have to show proof that you are a member to receive the plates? Does the DMV actually check organization records?

That could start major problems if they didn't!

yes you do...

..have to show proof that you are a member of whatever organization you are trying to get a plate for. The websites that I saw specifically had that noted beneath the license plate.

I agree, I am in TN and not a member. IF I am ever honored to gain membership I would certainly like to obtain one. Though I have never seen one on anyone's car. I have seen plenty of the frames and AKA plates but not license plates.

hmmm I wonder why not?

I live in FL which has specialized plates. I have a Florida A&M specialized plate with vanity letters-BAAKA, my line sister has a regular FL tag that says FAMUAKA. When I lived in Michigan, AKA was a vanity plate, one could get a license plate that said AKA001, but the state handed out the numbers in the order that you appeared at DMV.

Personalized plate

I had a Grambling vanity plate on my car I got in '94, either it was stolen or it fell off. Anyway, I had heard a year or so ago that our school's plate production was in jeopardy also. I guess it's okay now. I still see the plates.

But when I did have my vanity plate, I inquired about getting it personalized and I was informed that it was not possible. (That's Lowzyana, for ya!)

I have seen every D9 org represented on MD plates. In fact, they are on at least the second version of the plates for most orgs.
in order to obtain them, you must go through your org to certify you are a member. The chairperson handles the paperwork w/ the DMV.

Thumbs up

I'm excited ya'll. I ordered my AKA plate. It's available!

Yaaaaaayyyyyyyy! Here it is:

It's about time Lozyana does something right!

Edit: You have to prove that you are a member when you order. So, anyone just can't order a plate.

Thanks to the Nu Gamma Omega chapter BR for organizing this effort. I know I place my name on the list almost 2 years ago.

#1 goes to Soror Julia Purnell. Sorors should know why....

Flawda SUCKS!

In the state of florida we have to have 15,000 signatures and pay $60,000.00 application fee! Am i the only one who thinks that's a bit much!

It must be easier in Lowzyana. There are high schools with their own plates and a church.

We had to pay $25.00 for the plate.

Now soror, you know the plates will be on the Grey Ghost with PRIDE! I just have to get another Gram Alumni tag to go around it. The one I have isn't VISIBLE enough.
