See I don't think they will do anything. And if they do it will be like the series finale. I think they will be like CSI "hint hint hint, but nothing happens".
But see I also believe that if the writers did intend to have them have a relationship that they could work it in a way that it wouldn't take away from the show. Almost like a "talked about' but "never seen" relationship. Like I know it wouldn't bother me if somewhere down the road the character of Elliott comes on and says "I'm dating Olivia". I'd be like "okay whatever" but I wouldn't want to see them all kissy face, because it's not a soap opera. Does that make sense?

The tension and suspense from last night's show caused me to watch some scenes with my hands over my eyes.

I think the show would officially "jump the shark" with a romance between them - the more I think about it, I think both Olivia & Elliott are saying that they care deeply for each other, just not romantically.
I remember in the early days, Olivia dated, and for a while, it seemed as if she had some sort of crush on Elliott but respected his marriage. I never bought the Olivia/Alex thing.

I don't like the idea of Olivia and Stabler getting together, and hopefully the writers don't, either. Look what happened to Moonlighting...

Yes. She came out of witness protection, at least temporarily, in a later of SVU, to put her "killer" in jail. Apparently, it's safe for her to be completely out now.

This show would sooooo "jump the shark" if those two got together. All they would need to do is add some cutesy kid for the "awww" factor to make it even worse.
I see the connection between Elliot and Olivia as more of a "philia" type of love where there is affection and respect. It doesn't appear to be an "eros" love. Now if the writers seek to spice up the show and have it be a little soap opera-esque, they can have the two confuse the love they have for each other and end up in bed.
Shoot, I'd rather see Munch and Finn together before Elliot and Oliva.

It would bring balance to the prettiness that is Elliot & Olivia.

A Benson/Stabler romance would be the stupidest idea, ever. When did the main characters getting together after years and years ever turn out to be a good thing? Aside from Moonlighting, didn't they try that on Who's the Boss (stupidest show, anyway, but still)? Let's not even talk about the stupid Luke/Lorelai relationship on Gilmore Girls, let alone his new kid WTF. It's a dumb idea that signals the death of a show almost as certainly as the introduction of a new child does.
Anyway, the point of this show is CRIME and INVESTIGATION, not ROMANCE. Ever.

JAG. But it was the final episode. Of course there had been romantic tension between those two for years.
