YOU think?
Why me? I'm not violent.
I'm not shocked at the events either. I just wanted us to watch this thread (Greeklife) to see how folks respond.

I am an Auburn University student, and actually, AKA2D, both the individual in the Klansman attire and the one with the blackface and FUBU shirt have been expelled from their fraternity, Delta Sigma Phi. However, I am hoping that both Beta Theta Pi and Delta Sig will have their charters revoked.
I must give props the men of Omega Psi Phi here on campus. They have handled themselves like true gentleman (I'd expect nothing less) and represented Omega to the fullest.

This is so sad, beyond uncalled for, and down right pitiful to say the least. All I can do is shake my head at this madness... umph umph umph, this makes no dayum sense.

My friend saw it on the news yesterday and one of the anchors is a known member of Omega Psi Phi. She said even though he still had his professional demeanor, he was totally pi$$Ed!

Thanks, Intheknow! Expulsion from their fraternity is the first thing I thought of. There could be no other way to go. I agree that the charters should be revoked as well.
Please keep us updated!

It makes me sad to see things like this are still occuring in 2001. I find ignorance of other races inexcusable, especially on a campus that has bglo to show white students that may not know much about black students that we are not blackfaces that wear gold chains and FUBU. It's sad that our past is still shown as a joke to some, but I am glad that their fraternity is suspended. My first semester in school I stayed on a floor that had more white students than black. They would ask me all types of questions about black people, and I couldn't fault them because they just didn't know. I was their first incounter with a black person that they could ask personal questions, and thank God I was a good representation of our people. All I can say is that when things like this occur, I can only be thankful for all of the positive black men and women that prove these stereotypes wrong everyday.

I received the email from my sons god-father and when I looked at the pictures I was utterly disgusted!!! They even had the nerve to depict a lynching with a guy in blackface wearing a handwritten FUBU shirt. They should be expelled from the organization, make a public apology to the Bruhs of Omega Psi Phi, and get their behinds kicked. There is no excuse for racist behavior like this on any campus, anywhere!

My feelings
Peace All!
It's been a minute, right?? I want to get all of your opinion on the following. It's what I wrote on another message board regarding this issue... Input Please!!
i cannot even begin to communicate the outrage i felt when i read the newspaper clipping and viewed the pictures of the RACIST PIGS who dressed in black face for halloween. After the outrage calmed (it's not gone), the reality of this bulls*** country became even more apparent to me (it's not a new discovery)...
the pigs who dressed as such in these pictures represent the majority of white people's feelings (at least the majority who hold economic and political power) when it comes to Afrikans in amerikkka. the majority of them think of us as simpletons, homeboys and worthy to be lynched. we try so hard to prove them wrong, but this thinking is internalized in their very beings... i used to be one who wanted to prove so hard to white people that we can articulate thoughts, that we are intelligent, that we are good people... then one day i said f*** it... why should i spend so much of my time and energy trying to integrate into a system that is set up for my demise instead of trying to build my own community... instead of fighting for self determination...
tell me people... who are we looking to be validated by?? these same pigs who think it's funny to depict tying a noose around a black man's neck are the same pigs who may one day be your bosses... these are the same pigs who will tie an institutionalized noose around your necks.
writing to their schools and national headquarters is a good idea... it will punish the guilty, but it will not cease the thinking that goes along with these actions (which is an impossible feat because this thinking runs rampant). we need to stop looking for validation from someone who doesn't give a damn... stop trying to fit in and conform to be something we can never be... stop contributing to a system that overall is repaying us with crumbs.
Come on Afrikan people... let's build!! thoughts... ideas??

The Fraternal Bond
Has anyone ever read "The Fraternal Bond as a Joking Relationship" by Peter Lyman. In this essay, he argues that such pranks increase the bond among fraternity members. He gives example similar to this one and others involving the degradation of women. I think people like him perpetuate the ignorace which encourages such behavior. As a society, to change behavior, we need to first change attitudes.

Auburn Frats.
I really couldn't believe my eyes. I couldn't imaging that college educated people would act like that. I think that it was rally immature of them. Auburn needs to kick them off the campus, and their headquarters need to revoke their membership.

Expulsion of members and snatching of chapters would be an appropriate response. What needs to be done in this case is to make sure that incidents like this are reduced, period.
That is the best thing that will come out of this. As I said before, there is no way that 40-some years of civil rights advances can even begin to make up for 400+ years of BS. Whole populations don't go lockstep from one situation to another.

Exactly, they are going to have to endure the consequences of their actions. That would be the last thing I would do is to mock someone in a fraternity or a sorority, or anybody. I know those Omegas want to cut up.
