HELP! Anyone else suffering the CA Power Crisis?

Hey...I thought Hawaii was the melting pot of the world! You know what's funny though? In the last census, more people considered themselves Native Hawaiian and more people calling themselves Polynesian in California than they did in Hawaii (there were more "Part Hawaiians" and "Part Polynesian" here).

Anyway, Newbie, to answer your question, every summer I usually spend it up in the Bay Area with my family and friends. I have family in Hayward, Union City, Daly City, San Jose, and Santa Clara. I also know a whole crap load of guys (alums from Archbishop Riordan HS) that I've known since high school. This year it's going to be hard for me to do my annual thing because I'm trying to get my butt to AGD convention. If I can stay over for a few days in SF that would be great.

Last January I went to Torrance, CA with my BF to meet his family and friends. Torrance is where he's from, and I simply enjoyed SoCal! I guess the nightlife was what totally blew me away...that's why I can't wait to go again!

There's nothing like Cali. Pure excitement, relaxation, beauty...all in one place. I'm from San Francisco, originally, too...and let me tell you...if you haven't been to SF--my, my, you have missed tons!

OohTeenyWahine, LOL...........I know tons of guys from Riordian hahaa.... Tons of my childhood friends went there, too. I'm sure Newbie knows a lot of them, too. Actually, she has had quite a few *encounters* of them, actually....Newbie, care to share? LOL...

I consider myself a native Californian. I was not born here, but I've lived in Southern California (L.A. and S.D.) most of my life--longer than any other place I've lived by far... and I've traveled quite a bit, but my favorite place, favorite city in the world by far is SAN FRANCISCO.

You know OTW, Amy & Car - I got your backs but I think all states have their bad points and good points. I think though that Jeff is just pointing out the bad and not thinking of all the wonderful things that California has to offer!! Jeff, I live an hour from NYC and I love it too but also hate the crime and whack jobs who push women into subway tracks, hit them with bricks on the head and a road that you can't even cross without getting hit by a car - - so just remember - all places have the good and the bad!

I like Freaky Frisco--always had fun in NoCal. But it is to dayum expensive to live up there! I don't really like SmelLA. But OC has way too many crosses burning... And well, inSANe Diego, is way too close to TJ and will be annexed by Baja Californicailes Calexico within 10 years anyway. Unless San Andreas has somethin' to say 'bout it... I'm just waiting for my beach front property in Yuma, Arizona. Or Las Vegas Nuevos, Isla Californevada...

AKA_Monet--yeah, living in SF is very expensive...my parents have a house there, and while I would LOVE to go back there to live after I graduate from college...I really don't know if I"ll be able to afford it!

Ahh--the only bad thing about Cali is--you hit on it AKA_Monet--San Andreas Fault. YIKES.

amycat, you are absolutely correct, it is purely opinion on my part and as we all know they are like a$$holes, everybody has one. I totally agree that we all have the right to live where we choose.

newbie, you are correct. All the people who I have met who fit that description are all in southern Calif, not one was from Monterey, Big Sur, the silicon vally, or anywhere near the bay area. Thank you for allowing the clarification. You are also correct about the acceptance of gays. My half brother is gay and lives in Laguna Hills, he also has a condo in Palm Springs. Those are both, according to him, 'gay friendly'. He finds most of Calif. quite comfortable.

ISU_XO, I don't think much of NYC either for the reasons that you mentioned. Although born in Poughkeepsie and lived in Yonkers, the last time I was in NY Neil Armstrong was walking around on the moon in 1969. Sure do miss that GREAT food though. Most of my mothers side of the family still live in Poughkeepsie. My second cousin was a attorney in NYC making $175,000 per year and left her job to be able to go to work in Albany for $120,000 per year. Upstate is not nearly as bad as the city.

I know this is completely off the power crisis subject, but some of my best guy friends were the ones that went to Riordan. The bulk of them graduated in 1997 and a few of them were from 1996. Each year at my old high school they select 12 lucky girls to attend a LIFE retreat in the Santa Cruz mountains for a week. Most of the schools (which includes schools from So Cal too)belong to the Marianist congregation, and Riordan's one of them. Five years after my retreat we still keep in touch!

But I ask that you not generalize all Californians to be like that--or even all SoCal ppl to be like that--b/c obviously, AmyCat is from SoCal--and she is SO NOT selfish, shallow, and self-centered. She is one of the most generous, warm-hearted, and eloquent people I have ever met online. ALso--I've been to SoCal many times--your descriptions do not fit any of the people that I have encountered. Please do not generalize!

'Cuz if you were really tryin' to do the OJ'ed wesssss side connexion with the white Bronco off the I10 to the Santa Monica freeway, then you need to leave that chit alone. 'Cuz, nobody actually "lives" in those WB, Fox news channel "Leave It To Beaver" lot facades anyway!!!

And don't go there with a Magical Friday's/Starbuck's in Ladera Heights... Folks from the Inglewood don't take kindly to that chit. Much less, Pacific Palisades. Unless your talkin' Crenshaw, Dorsey or LA High...

Dude, like you were in the wrong part of town... Like you shoulda been up in Newport Beach, Laguna Nigel, Dana Point or San Clemente--Not Oceanside or San Marcos... Those places are for either the Marines or horse riders...

Then, the Deserts are so confusing to us Californians anyway. All I know is it takes 4 hours on the I15 North to get to Las Vegas and I'm there if I pass either Barstow or Whiskey Pete's... Besides, true Californians only ride the Friday, 5 PM Southwest Airlines Flight when they do Vegas from any location SWA flies...

As far as the Energy Crisis goes. Yeah, since those old Foggie's in the MWD died out, our prices are all jacked up... They sho' woulda not played that chit back in the '60's!!! These guys played NoCal and Colorado on the CA aqueduct back in the day... Back then, E.T. Tonight power was centralized in Burbank, California with the Price is Right. But since, nobody lives there, unless you're talkin' 'bout the homeless or the migrant workers--who incidentally don't vote--then, chit 'bout Energy ain't gonna happen. At least LA built their own Municipal Electrical Generator. But their having problems, too--so I've heard... And alot of Mr. Davis' electorate lives in LA... Some folks are talkin' bring back Petey!!! 'Cuz most of SoCal, outside of LA, is skrait Republican country!!! Nixon, Reagan, Dukemejin, Wilson.... On and on... What's next, Schwarzanegger for Governor?!? And LA's powerful really liked Riordan... Nobody liked the last Mayor of San Diego though 'cuz she fouled up the Padres Ball Park initiative and Charger Tixs guarentee... So the front runner's of California... That's the biggest question, yet. Maybe, Brown of Oakland??? Hmmmmmm....
