I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!!
They're insisting I start in exactly two weeks, though.
Oh well, see ya' old bosses...I guess you aren't taking vacations.

The only person you can worry about is you. It is great to be considerate of others when possible, but in this situation - don't turn away a newer, better offer to help your menacing boss. Would she have done the same for you? Probably not.

I gave my notice verbally right before I left yesterday (and turned in a letter this morning).
Reactions:
I'm sad to see you go.
Please start looking for your replacement ASAP.
Couldn't you have given a longer notice?
Who's going to do payroll when we're on vacation? (We worked out that I'm probably going to come in on Labor Day)
But best reaction:
I wish you would have told me you were looking so we could have found a replacement and had more time to train them. Ha! Really? Who does that with no sure leads? It's one thing if you're moving or something else, but otherwise, I've been sort of casually looking for YEARS.

People definitely do not tell they are looking unless they are moving or for some other reason will definitely no longer be with that employer.
Good luck with finishing everything at your current place of employment in preparation for the next place. Make sure you remain professional and complete everything on this company's end so they don't have anything to fuss about.

Absolutely. There's no guarantee this new job will work out, and I may need her reference. It's tempting to tirade like a child, but I like having a good professional reputation.

These are priceless! I'd tell them to stick their payroll where the sun don't shine (politely, of course.) it's not your problem.
