Ok so let me get this straight...ilovemyglo is from a strict religious family and can't date yet she can go out for a beer. Huh? And anyways how can any normal parent expect their kid not to date or at least hang out w/ the opposite sex???? I'd worry about my kid if he/she wasn't by about age 19 or 20. I honestly thing ilovemyglo should stand up to her parents, if James means that much to her. I'll share my story (some of y'all are already up on it, but for those who aren't..):
I got engaged last Sept to an Egyptian Muslim guy. He is a sweet guy from a good family and I love him! My parents had said back in August "We don't want you with him anymore. We think he's a terrorist." (yeah, Alabama) I of course didn't agree w/ any of their grounds and so I kept on going. I was 20, after all. So then the first day of school my mom makes an impromptu visit to my apt and finds him there. Hell breaks loose. She accuses me of being ungrateful and a whore (yeah her exact words). Screaming ensues. But finally she leaves. He offers to break up, but I refused. So labor day weekend he asks. I had to hide it for over a month (not easy w/ a 1.33 carat flawless rock!!). The worst month of my life. When I finally told them they were royally pissed. I was disowned, and they would have cut me off if they had been paying my way in the first place. Gradually things came around. They're better but of course nowhere near ideal. My point is is that while standing up and breaking the mold can be scary as hell, it has to be done eventually, and if the guy is 100% behind you, it'll all work out.
