As of right now, its neither. The University of Mississippi shall now be known as Olé Miss, and the new mascot is a bull fighter. I thought that everyone would like to know.

Is the official drink of Olé Miss a version of hot chocolate?

I am so confused. We don't have a bull fighter as a mascot! They do sell hot chocolate at the local coffee shops and on campus, but we don't have an official drink of the university....

It looks good but they need to make sure to have someone double check their links--many of the sorority ones had errors in the URLs.

Thanks! I'm just thinking of the PNMs who might visit the Ole Miss Greek site and be discouraged they can't see all the sororities' websites.

Oh yea, most of them are just typos in the link which can be fixed pretty quickly.

Kappa's web address has a typo in it, too. ("eud" should be "edu"). I don't know why the site is down either. The info is still out there. Do a search on the Ole Miss site for "Kappa Kappa Gamma" and some of the links are listed. The site hasn't been updated though.

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to let everyone know that our recruitment numbers are down this year! So far, there are only 608 PNMs registered. The deadline is August 27, 2004 and everyone is waiting to see if Greek Life extends the deadline to let more girls register. Last year, there were almost 200+ more PNM who registered at the last minute. This year they were expecting 1000 since there are more freshmen this year.
Just wanted to keep everyone updated!

Interesting stuff I found in the 1928 yearbook...
I had to look up something in the 1928 yearbook today for work and I found some interesting things.
Ole Miss had three local sororities at one point.
Kappa Sigma Tau, Gamma Chapter founded in 1927 at Ole Miss. They were nationally founded at Northwestern in 1922.
Beta Sigma Omicron, Alpha Kappa Chapter was founded in 1927 at Ole Miss. They were founded nationally at the U of MO in 1888. Their colors are the same as DZ and so is their flower, is this the group that later became the Beta Beta Chapter of Delta Zeta at Ole Miss?
Tau Delta was founded at Ole Miss in 1926 in hopes of merging with a national sorority. I wonder if maybe ZTA who was founded at Ole Miss in 1939 absorbed them or if another group absorbed them. The might not have affliated with a national group and just fizzled out. ZTA is the only group with founding dates near this time that is why I sort of guessed them. I know it isn't KD, Chi Omega, DG, Phi Mu, Tri Delta because they were all in this yearbook along with these three locals.
I was also looking in like a 1900 yearbook and there was a sorority with the name: Sigma, Sigma Sigma. It had a comma after the first Sigma. I don't think this is the group that became Tri Delta in 1904, that was another group.
Interesting stuff... there were also a bunch of fraternities that I am not familiar with, but I'm more into the sorority history.

It would be interesting if they would have. BSO affiliated nationally with ZTA in the 60's. However, there were few chapters active at the time of the absorption and not all of their chapters may have wanted to be absorbed. Penguitrax has a BSO chapter roster so she could let us know. I know that the BSO chapter at LSU folded several years before the absorption. ZTA already had a chapter LSU so it would have been interesting to see how the chapter personalities would have merged if BSO was still active
Speaking of DZ, they absorbed Phi Omega Pi nationally. The POP chapter at Auburn didn't want to affiliate and chose to go AOII instead. ASA had an older chapter, forgot the school, but they went ASA to local to DDD to local to ASA again. It's interesting how things turn out sometimes.
