That's awesome! Just goes to show that the greek life system at sec schools are for people outside the southeast as well.

I wonder about the state distribution of women who withdrew from recruitment. The women receiving bids isn't exactly a cross-section of the student body, but it's close. I didn't realize Auburn had so many out of staters. I wonder if more women from Alabama withdrew that out of staters. If so, I'd think it's because out of state women are looking for a home away from home because they are less likely to come to Auburn with a bunch of friends, and they are less susceptible to hometown pressure to join one of a few "right" chapters. Even if a southern out of stater gets released from the "top" chapters, she's more likely to realize the value of joining an NPC sorority on a national level because they may have more knowledge about Greek Life. (i.e. XYZ might not be tops at Auburn, but it's big in my hometown and/or strong nationally).

I agree that most of those girls who drop out of recruitment are probably from Alabama or another nearby state. They come in with a stronger idea of who "the best sorority" is and drop out when they don't get a bid from one of three or four chapters. I know a mom whose daughter was lucky enough to get a bid, but mom was upset because that group just wasn't big here in our Alabama town.

violetpretty Thanks for the breakdown, it is very informative. I have twins applying to Auburn.(boy/girl) We are also OOS. I think the OOS numbers will start to decline as Auburn has lowered the amount of scholarships it will be giving OOS students starting in Fall '12.

The few times I've heard a boy/girl twins going greek, I've always thought that it would be cool if they went AEPi and AEPhi! OR, i guess, ADPi and ADPhi.
I'm shut up now.

I vote for Sigma Kappa and Kappa Sigma! The pairing always makes for a cute party shirt.

I think AEPi/AEPhi siblings are really common, just because they are both Jewish houses. I think I also knew more couples from those houses than any other pairing when I was in college.

Ooohh...I just looked at the radar and noticed that some big storms are headed for the Loveliest Village of the Plains. Y'all stay dry!
Oh, and remember--recruitment is a mutual choice set up. The PNMs will be ranking the groups but not cutting them as the sororities are also reducing the number of girls invited back after each round of parties. The Pi Chis have probably explained that but there are often a bunch of confused PNMs on here after first parties wondering how they ended up going to groups that they thought they "cut".

YES. This. Quoted because people need to read and understand that. You are not "cutting" anyone. You're just listing them in order of your preference.
Also, try not to focus so much on the NUMBER of invites you receive. That first round of cuts is typically VERY heavy. So many people come here and are SO SURE that their recruitment is DOOMED because they don't have as many invites as the other PNMs. I know that's hard. But whether you get 15, 7, or 2 invites, in the end, you can only get ONE BID.

Wareagle: Hang in there (and tell your room-mate to hang in there too)! You got some great advice already from the previous posters and you should take it. Just remember that the chapters have to make big cuts as part of the process. Believe me, it is not a personal attack on you.
The big thing is to take advantage of the options you still have. That means:
1. Get rested and put a positive spin on things. If you go back to your remaining chapters sulking and resentful that does not help you and doesn't help the chapters you visit, as they won't see the real you. I like the idea of heading to the gym. Seeing some of those good looking Alabama guys working up a sweat should improve your mood. (Yes ladies, inappropriate, but it would definitely cheer me up!)
2. Give the chapters who invited you back an objective look. I didn't go to Auburn but I know it has one of the strongest Greek systems in the country. The chapters who asked you back offer some great opportunities. Try to see those as objectively as possible.
Hang in there! We are rooting for you from our keyboards!

Whew, it has definitely been hot. I was insanely lucky enough to receive 12 invites back today! Wareagle, there were a lot of girls in my group who were cut pretty heavy today, but all the sororities are so fantastic I feel honored to be invited back to any and my friend told me that as long as they want you they're worth a shot. It does worry me that I wasn't cut as heavy today... but I'm just going with it and having a great time. Everyone is SO nice!

**hugs**
Go ahead and sign up. You're not binding yourself to anything if you do and there are no additional fees. If you still aren't feeling it when the time comes around to attend events, you don't have to.
