This is the official site for Fiesta SA: http://www.fiesta-sa.org
NIOSA is April 20-23. Here is their site: http://www.niosa.org
I didn't find a site with pictures, but if I do, I will be sure to post it here because, as I am sure most of you do, I love me some Fiesta!

This years poster is hideous. The big ole sun on there creeps me out. Looks like something you'd see on an orange juice bottle.

Thanks for posting the web sites-I have to agree that sun just does not do it for me so I will not be buying this years poster.
This is a wierd and random question but when I was home last weekend my mom said Albert Flores of KENS 5 got fired a couple of years ago(I was talking about him for some reason). He did the weather on Channel 5 and I grew up with him on TV. I was totally shocked! Does anyone know the story?

I guess it was about 2 years ago. Albert Flores got fired for plagiarism. He had a thing where he wrote weather related stories for the Express-News (KENS and the Express News have that partnership thing and a joint website www.mysa.com) in a weekly column. The EN had been publishing them for a while (a couple years) a lowly copy editor was reviewing one of his columns before publication and had read the exact same story somewhere online. He dug up the online story and took it to his boss. The investigated and turns out a bunch of his columns were taken from other websites and not attribuited. Since credibility is a HUGE deal in the news biz, it embarassed the hell outta both KENS News and the EN. KENS was embarassed because even though hes a weatherman, he's still considered a journalist. The EN was the most embarassed becasue they hadnt been doing their job in researching and making sure his stories were his. They had been publishing plagiarised material. It hurts their credibility. So he was quitetly let go. There wasnt anything quiet about it, becasue the EN printed all kinds of retractions and stuff. I dont know what he's doing or if he's even living here anymore. I'd imagine he's pretty embarassed by it all.
For his side of the story, he maintains that he was so busy and pressured to meet deadlines, that he didnt realize what he had done.

I think this is the dude who used to report the weather here in Corpus. My uncle, who live in San Antonio, was just telling me this past weekend that Albert Flores was fired a while back.

Okay, Mr. lonestaradpi and I went today and saw The Alamo . He is a huge history buff and that was one of his majors and he and I agreed that the Davy Crockett "ending" wasn't as bad as it could have been. He could have been a white flag waving coward in the end, but instead in the movie he went down fighting. Who knows the real ending but I have heard of much worse endings of Crockett . I enjoyed the movie. Will probably have to buy it when it comes out on DVD. I think that I will also have to go and visit the set in Dripping Springs. For those of you who love Texas and it's history, you should go spend your $$ on it.

Ive lived in south Texas for 10 years, but still dont understand. ...
What is it with people in South Texas bbq'ing for Easter? I dont understand it.... With the exception of this year b/c of the rain, Brackenridge park is like an ant hill on Easter Weekend. What gives? Why the BBQ?

I don't get it either!! I have only lived in South Texas and in my hometown this happened for Easter too. BBQ for Easter? Yeeck! My husband and I went for a run in McAllister Park on Sat and even though people can't stay there overnight, people were starting the Easter prepartying. It is so damn crazy!!! I bet even with all the rain and crappy weather, there were still people out there!

I can't believe you all omitted the most beautiful lyrical ode to the Lone Star State ever penned.....
(Mrs McCartney is clearing her throat....)
Wish I was back in Texas...
The ocean's no place for a squirrel
Wish I was in Texas, prettiest place in the world
Oh no
I guess that deep in my heart I'll always be a Texas girl
I wanna go hooooooooome, home
I wanna wake up in Texas
I miss those wide open skies
I miss my twenty acres, barbecues and pecan pies
Oh why
When I'm so far from you Texas, all I can do is cry
I wanna go hooooooooooome I wanna go home
(bowing) thank you, thank you!
For the record, I have always wanted to go to Texas though I am a Northcoast girl born and bred. And now I finally get to, because our convention is in San Antonio in June and I"M GOING! Woo Hoo!!!! It looks beautiful!

Amarillo.
It was pretty much too windy or cold to do anything outside. Ever.
When it was ok to be outside, you were dodging tornados.
South Texas was a new experience for me....
Poinsettias grow outside - as bushes? You all get in rivers here? You call that a river? Why does everyone eat outside? Its thanksgiving and I can wear shorts outside? How is it this damn foggy at night? Could it be any hotter? Its a quarter inch of snow, WHY is the town shut down? Whats a low water crossing? You cant really drive 100 mph on 77 between Kingsville and the Valley, can you? How do you call 55 degrees and drizzle WINTER? Why does everyone have pictures of their family in a field of bluebonnets? Thats not a taco, thats a burrito -becasue its in a flour tortilla - yes it is! Youre 24 and the only time you ever saw snow was January 1985? Whats so damn spacial about that 2 story Whataburger in Corpus? Why tamales and christmas? What the hell is backstrap and why is Nov 1st so important? Whats up with all the spanish? Whats a blue bell? My god the humidity....
So yeah, it was an experience coming to this part of the state. I consider myself a Texan by default. Whiel I was technically born IN Texas, the panhandle is more (gulp) Oklahoma than Texas.
