Where's Dee when we need her? She'll weigh in on this one for sure. Personally, I am going to go to Payless and spend $10 on an inexpensive pair of white shoes to wear with my white dress.
I'd go that route OR wear the pastel dress.
Still like the dress @ Banana Republic! Love the ruffly hem...

Ditto what Julie said! Besides, if you attend any of Tau's Initiations in the future, you'll wear it again (and again, and again). I have a pair of white shoes and my Initiation dress that I end up wearing at least once a year, if not more. I love that dress, but it does need a cardigan. It's also a dress you can wear for other occasions.
To date myself, my first Initiation dress was a long Laura Ashley, looked like I should have a hoop under it! What a trip!
I don't recall anybody wearing anything other than white or off-white at other Conventions I've been to.

I'm assured, hopefully, lol, 2 collegiates initiations a year, so I get use out of mine. Not wild about the white shoes either, lol.

I found a pair of off-white shoes. It doesn't really match the Banana Republic dress (if I end up getting it) though. As for Tau's initations, I'll be wearing what I wore to mine, which is a winter outfit (our initations are in December and April).

See how much I know? LOL. I was at Atlanta, but didn't know Marie then and she was wearing pink, so it clearly wasn't that obvious or I'd have noticed (either that, or I'm just clueless and don't really ever notice what people are wearing).
So, save some cash! Wear the pastel you already have!

I need your opinions....
I am still trying find whites for convention.... While looking online I found this dress. It says Champagne color. I view "champagne" as that light goldish car color--but the dress sure looks white in this picture. I will probably call Marshall Fields customer service and ask about the color. But more importantly, what do you think of this dress?
thanks for you HONEST opinions---

I think it's very elegant! I think champagne in fabric is one of the many "off white" variants, which will work fine!

I really like the dress - if it's in your price range (and flattering), I'd buy it quick! It's so hard to find something cute in white or off-white or champagne or pink or pale yellow.
I wore a pale pink suit to Convention in Atlanta. Can't fit into it now or I'd be wearing it again, and again and again.
Another Alpha Gam alumna was telling me about the time she arrived for initiation and several of the new members were wearing... slips.
Honestly.

One of my chapter sisters wore what amounted to a long white t-shirt to initiation. I'm surprised no one has tried to pull off wearing a slip yet.

At my chapter, I instituted a "Julie Must Approve Your Initiation Dress" rule. They bring everything over to the house for my approval and I give them treats. Somedays... it's all about the "carrot and stick" approach with my girls.
A funny thing happened after a while though, now the collegians are tougher than I am about what's appropriate! I actually heard the New Member Coordinator give a 5 minute talk about how it was tacky (and therefore beneath an Alpha Gam) to wear open toed shoes with pantyhose.
Wonder what I can do to get them to write better reports???

Do you think girls would dress less tacky if IHQ revised the initiation dress code to allow knee length skirts/dresses?

No, as it is, tea length becomes knee length. Surely, knee length would end up being mini skirts!

Didn't know that! I always thought of tea length as at least mid calf.
