As crazy as this sounds, yes, some girls do chose the color of their pref dresses based on which sorority they are hoping to receive a bid from. This practice is especially popular with in state girls who already have a good idea what house they will likely get a bid from. (Then they cross their fingers and say a prayer and hope for the best)
Best advice, mom to mom, buy your daughter a little black dress or perhaps a navy one as mentioned earlier. A Little Black Dress is the best investment as she will likely attend many formals where the LBD will come in handy. My daughter wore her pref dress to three fraternity formals and one of her sororities date parties. Because it was nice and basic, nobody could really tell she was wearing the same dress over and over again. She just changed her shoes and jewelry. You can't do that with a bold color dress!
Save the color dress for skit parties and wear a neutral color to pref. it's better safe than sorry.

Black with a bit of color might work! One of my daughters has ebony black hair so didn't want an all-black dress on top of that. She found one that had red accents and that worked out beautifully!

Agreed. If daughter loves the dress, feels great when wearing it, looks good in it, and is not accessorizing as 33 warned against, that is what she should wear.

All really good advice on pref dresses. Wear what you feel GREAT in and don't worry about what everyone else is wearing or saying that you should wear….
So thinking of clothes… a sister of mine just posted the Ole Miss 2014 Football "What to Wear" guide on FB….. will try to post the pic… but if doesn't work it looks like the following:
v. Boise State- Red
At Vandy- Red
Louisinanna Lafayette- Blue
Memphis- Red
Alabama- Blue
Texas A&M Blue
Tennessee- Blue
At LSU - Red
PC- Red
At Arkansas- Blue
MSU- Blue

Football colors
I'm guessing Auburn will be red.

I'm jealous of this warm weather, color-coordinated football game apparel scheme. Here in Michigan, we look pretty coordinated for the first half of the season, and then the stadium devolves into random "winter coat color."

I'm jealous of all schools that have colors that you can find pretty clothes in. I love the Vols, and I wear orange proudly, but it is not an easy color to wear. The schools that have my favorite color combos are Ole Miss, Georgia, and Vanderbilt.

LOL!! I didn't go to a big football school (well, there was a football team, and everyone enjoyed the games, but we played smaller schools), but I've been to a Penn State game and it was fun! I made sure to wear my white down jacket so I could at least wear one of the school colors, but random winter coat color was also well represented!

This is not a rant directed at you, MaryPoppins, just in general... but I can't hold my tongue any longer: I'd like to know how NPC thinks that PNMs are going to be able to find the tweetchat when they consistently typo the @TheSororityLife handle, on both the @NPCWomen account and @TheSororityLife account itself.
I realize this is quite possibly a function of someone having pre-scheduled several tweets through a dashboard, so the wrong spelling got copy/pasted. But still, stuff like this (I'm talking 5 or 6 major misspellings every week on these accounts) is an embarrassment to all 26 organizations.
"Sororities prioritize scholarship... sometimes!"
