Don't get me started on Petites. I am 5'4". Sitting down, I'm as tall as someone who is 5'8". But my legs are as short as ... well, short. My inseam is around 29" but I have a very long waist.
Petite dresses don't fit because they are too short from the waist to the shoulders and the arm lengths hit well above the wrist. The waistband of the pants hit far below where they should, so I always feel like I have a "wedgie". As for tops and jackets, I buy straight sizes.
I prefer buying pants in straight sizes, but often, once I have a 34" inseam hemmed, they break wrong on my leg. Bottom line.... buying pants is an excruciating experience for me.
I also agree that Petite sizes look like something my 4'10" grandma would have worn. Too many elastic waist bands and pastel colors. They are often designed to make grown women look too cutsie!

The moronic designers do not do it for regular people but the beautiful ones!
People are not built like models but just us regular folks.
Normal people are not bolimic. We are normal folks, not built like gods.

I'm 5 nothing, and HATE HATE HATE shopping for clothes. I have to try EVERYTHING on. I get my tips from watching What Not To Wear, actually. I know what stores I can shop in and what brands to buy. But it is frustrating to go to the Petite section and see grandma-ish clothes, assuming granny had NO sense of fashion or style.

Petite Fashionista Presents, an event hosted by a friend of mine, was this past weekend and I've written two posts about it in my blog. One went live today, and is a wrap-up of the event. The other one was mostly pictures of the event, which went up on Sunday evening.
I hope the designers will become major names some day!

I was avoiding the word "big."
Except for Joe's Jeans (Paige Premium Denim was SOLD at the event, but not part of the fashion show), the other brands presented are basically unknown.

Avoiding the word "big" was a poor choice. You should have said it, and then if you chose made a joke about it.

people with body types that deviate from the standard sizes are increasingly shopping online because the selection is greater

(What Joproper REALLY means to say is that he wants you to click on the link in his signature, because he's not REALLY greek at all, he just wants everyone to look at his website and buy his crappy junk).
