what year did you graduate? I have several friends from jackson!

ahh, the days of foxboro, before it became the "fox entertainment center" blah!
and swensons zucchini things!

I actually voluntarily switched schools to our rival, Tuslaw, for my junior year, but went back to Fairless my senior year. I just didn't care. haha. I wasn't involved in any extracurriculars, because I worked all the time and didnt have a spare second. As much as I'd have loved to join the newspaper!

We don't have a huge greek system. I know some about most of these, but still not sure which I prefer yet.

Edited, because I occasionally say the wrong thing
Thanks for the help Penguin!
Where will you being rushing, Pixell?

pixell,

I sure hope you go through rush! You have a lot of wonderful groups to choose from, and each of those groups can offer you so much!

When is rush at Winthrop?

I really hope that Pixell rushes here at Winthrop! Going through Recruitment here at Winthrop is very fun because it's not as intimidating as somewhere like Clemson University or so. I went through Recruitment here at Winthrop twice. GOOD LUCK to all PNMs! Ya'll should all be excited and don't stress! If you stress about Recruitment then you won't enjoy it or see the fun in Recruitment! If you are not bidded into a sorority, it's not the end of the world . . . it's just another opportunity to go through Recruitment again! At huge schools, it's almost impossible to remember EVERY person that goes through, not that you are forgetable or didn't make an impression. Even at Winthrop, it's hard to remember EVERY girl that goes through. I mean we only have appr. 150 girls go through but it's still hard to remember! Just try again! It can't hurt! If you do get bidded into a sorority, that's great! Get to know all the people you can meet! Don't drop the friends you made before Recruitment!

Talking Update!

My rush thread won't be starting until the veryyy beginning of September but I just wanted to post some new details!

I have acquired two recommendations and have a meeting tomorrow with the president of a local alumni chapter here, and she seems more than thrilled so I think that will make it three.

There are five national sororities at my campus so 3/5 should be good!

I'd also like to thank those of you who said give it a shot, being a junior. I'm starting to think that this year I may be able to participate in bid day.

Talking

I'm planning on rushing this fall. I'll be going to a fairly small college in Kansas. I am really excited! I'm also very nervous! There are 4 sororities. Alpha Phi, Delta Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta & Zeta Tau Alpha!!

I am from a small town of about 12,000. Some of the older ladies here started a committee to help girls from here when planning on rushing. We fill out a page about ourselves and then they send letters of recomendation to the sororities at the college of our choice. I think its real sweet and all, but from what I have heard getting recs isn't a big deal at my school. I am just really nervous about having the ladies do it and then it making me look like a suck up or over eager or something. I know at most of your schools you HAVE to have them, but I don't think anyone really does it at my school. I was just wondering what your thoughts on it was. So if anyone could help me that would be great!!

Also, I'm planning on doing a rush thread! I believe rush is the first week of September!!

At my school you don't need recs but the girls who do submit them aren't looked down on at all. It can only be a good thing no matter where you go. Don't worry about looking too eager, they're looking for girls who will be active and who are excited to be an XYZ! Good luck!

Hardly anyone (like 1/100) at my initiating school had recs, so when we got one, it just made you stand out in our mind!

Noelle,
I go to WSU, so I know which school you're talking about! I won't say, in case you don't want to tell. Anyway, I had thought about going there, and looked into the system quite a bit. I'm trying to get some recs as well, but I'm not too worried about it. Your rush is just a couple weeks after mine, and I wish you tons of luck! I can't wait to see where we end up! Our schools have two of the same chapters, it would be interesting if we got in the same one!

There is a different school very close by, and I have seen posters from there. Though those people are great and I know they won't tell me anything. I told one mod that I think I have an advantage over a lot of other PNMs; I don't know anyone there, and have no idea about stereotypes and any hierarchies. My only contact was with the KDs for a tour, and the Greek Advisor. Even if I heard disparaging things about a chapter, I don't care. If I feel comfortable there, they like me, and I can see myself calling these women sister for the next 80 or so years, who cares what their local rep is? I'd rather be in a group that may not be the most popular, with sisters I love, than be in a group for the sake of names and impressions any day.

Even if I don't receive a bid, I can always do AI after school. I try to remain positive. Though I have a streak of sarcasm
That's the right way to do it (and what I did!!) SDT isn't the most popular on my campus but it didn't make a diffrence to me!
