Thanks, Benz. Classy, dani.
This is me, so very, very sad. I hoped Joe would go out with an undefeated season.

Lol, it's happened before, and he's announced it openly.
JoePa is like the Queen of England or something- royalty/figurehead. He just sits there in the booth staring down at the field.
The loss also accomplished something- it set up a very (very) remote possibility that Pitt and Penn State could play each other in a bowl game. A few things would have to happen to accomplish that, though. But that would be awesome. It would piss off JoePa so much since he refuses to play us with a fair arrangement. Pitt doesn't always travel well, but that game would have great attendance.
My husband has a very limited list of bowl games that I will agree that we can go to- we just added any Pitt-Penn State game to that list. (we just got back from Aruba, we're going to the Final Four in Detroit and we're going to Alaska in June- I had to put some sort of limit on things!).

Dani went to Pitt. I don't expect anything else from someone who went to Pitt.
Anyway, the Nits lost but its okay, I'm still repping PSU. I'm allergic to roses but I'd love to go to the Rose Bowl.
And to be honest, who expected to be 9-1 at this point at the beginning of the season, winning trips to Wisky and Ohio State? Two monkeys off the back (winning @ OSU, breaking the streak against Michigan). If the team handles its business against Indy and MSU, we're in Pasadena. And to be honest, most of us were hoping for Capital One Bowl at best, especially when Sean went out with the ACL injury.
GO STATE, BEAT INDIANA!

I died a little inside when I saw Iowa beat us by 1 point. I even cried-and I don't know that much about football...I just know that when an unranked team beats #3, that's a BAD thing. It said on tv that this is the first time in 18 years Iowa has beat a top 10 team. This is the equivalent of Michigan State or Michigan (I forget which school it was) getting beat by Appalachian.
So, sad for JoePa.

The last time Iowa beat a top 10 team was 2004. Iowa was rated in the top 5 as recently as 2003. Jesus Christ - you seriously don't know much about football . . . Like Appy State? I mean, according to computer projections, Iowa is either a top-25 team or just outside - it's not an embarrassing loss for the Lions, on the road in tough weather conditions in a pretty tough place to play.
The only way in which it could be considered a "bad" loss was that Iowa tried to give them the game multiple times, and PSU just didn't close it out in the second half. That happens, and that's why it's so hard to go undefeated in modern college football in the 88-scholarship era.

Haha-No, you're right. I don't know much about football. In fact, that's why my boyfriend hates watching it with me because I ask too many questions. The only reason I said that is because that is what was on ESPN (when I watched with him the other night). It said that Iowa has not beat a top 10 team since 1990. Maybe I misunderstood what they were talking about but, I was pretty sure that was what was said. I don't claim to be some football fanatic who knows all the answers-so, please don't get too upset if my understanding regarding rules, regulations or specific times and dates isn't exactly top of the top.

kddani,
I need to agree with Nittanyalum. What you said was very disrespectful. Sure it happened before. Jo Pa IS elderly and I hope when you are his age no one makes fun of your health issues.

Seriously? Since when are either of you so sensitive??? Both of you have said things a lot worse about people, both public figures and people on this board.
JoePa has turned himself into a punchline for many who are outside of Happy Valley.
Happy Valley = HPRL????

Yes-but, you said it yourself...He is a major figure at Penn State. Putting down JoePa to a Penn Stater is like saying something bad about the Pope to a Catholic. Some Penn Staters just shrug it off...Some Catholics just shrug it off but, you have the occasional Frank Sinatra that get pissed off you chose to be so disrespectful (a.k.a. Sinnead O' Connor). I think that's why they got so upset. JoePa is more than a coach-HE IS Penn State. Just look at how much he has given back to the school.
I love JoePa.

BTW...I'm not a Penn Stater, but I have a lot of respect for JoePa. I would have the same respect for any coach.
As for Dani's criticism of our bashing of GC'rs, it's typically Helicopter Moms who make you want to bang your head against the wall, not of an elderly "statesman" who has physical limitations.

To be fair, everyone on the board has their pressure points. Remember how upset all the Pittsburgh people got when people spoke ill of the city of Pittsburgh during the Steelers Super Bowl run?
I admit, I'm not a Penn State fan or a huge JoePa fan. But, he's given a lot back to the school (including with academics), and he essentially put the school on the map. I'd forgive Penn State alums if they're a little protective of the guy.
ETA: Not saying you're not entitled to your opinion of him, or to make a joke at his expense; but, if you do so, you should at least expect some backlash from the Penn State people.

You mean like:
What bowl game will Joe Pa be coaching in this year?
Dunno, Depends.

As I said, not a Penn State fan, doesn't matter to me. Just trying to explain the reaction...
