but in this case, they are not and will never be. D9 is D9 and they are what they are. here, NPHC is its own entity (council), as around the nation of course, and they are on their own (no council, rep, etc.). They are classified as service here. Latina based, multicultural, service or whatever (i'm confused sometimes and I think they are too.). Some of the peeps i've seen dont even affiliate anymore ( mostly black) even after they join their respective D9 orgs. That says a little something to me. It just may be an inside situation that I dont know. I guess what I am getting at is not a matter of joining two orgs of the same kind because that's not the case, what I'm asking is this........ first and foremost...what is slg/slb classified as b/c one campus they are service with multicultural membership, the other they are just multicultural, the next they are a latina org., on the website they are confused as well and i'm confused. maybe once i get that out the way this will make a little more sense to me. TWO, coming from a family full of D9, you know the whole thing with of course once you make your mind up about whichever D9 you go with then that's that. What is the big issue with peeps that are or were members of this org. doing D9? I have asked so many and have gotten different anwers. Mostly, from the old heads I have spoken with, they respond to me by opposing and answering another question that goes a little somthing like this.......... (and yes it must all be in caps b/c they are yelling when they say it! LOL!) " WHAT? LISTEN, DID THEY PLEDGE _________ (naming all other D9 orgs) BEFORE THEY DECIDED TO DO __________ (what the person is deciding to do D9)? WAS IT ONE OF THE ONES BEFORE D9? (i.e. adpi, tri-delt, sigma chi, pike, etc) THEN, IT DOESN'T MATTER!" I am just curious about this. I am asking the questions that no one has the balls to ask b/c it really isnt registering! THANKS! :-)

Are you in college yet or still in high school? Your posts are nearly unreadable. If you're in high school, don't worry about all of this right now. Anyway, you're not getting it. This has been discussed at length on GC.
People should be joining only ONE general/social fraternity or sorority. While cross-membership is not necessarily forbidden between various councils and types of cultural orgs, it is frowned upon. And, it is, in some cases, forbidden.
I'm going to try to explain here, but others more knowledgeable please feel free to correct me.
There are different categories of Greek organizations: general/social, service, professional and honor. Since 1972, Title IX has made it even easier to denote general/social organizations as such orgs are allowed by law to deny membership to the opposite gender (i.e. women denied by fraternities and men denied by women's fraternities and sororities). Service, professional and honor organizations do not have that ability and are required by law to be co-ed.
So, again, if someone holds active membership in a NALFO organization and then joins and NPHC/NPC/NIC organization, it is considered inappropriate. This fact does not vary from campus to campus. It is what it is across the country and internationally.
On Sigma Lambda Gamma, they are a historically Latina-based sorority with a multicultural membership, though the distinction is probably unnecessary when all GLOs have a multicultural membership. When in doubt, check the national website.

Uhhh, I know at least two chapters of my fraternity who underground pledge.

Yes, NPHC is its own entity. NALFO and NMGC are their own enties as well (your last sentence seems to imply that LGLOs and MCGLOs are just haphazardly popping up with no type of organizational structure, which isn't the case).

First of all, is it a problem that these organizations are striving to do service? That's the reason several of our organizations exist. Second, the organizations as a whole are not confused just because the few members you've spoken to have referred to their organizations as service organizations. The I/HQs are very clear about what types of GLOs they are.

Are you saying that once people leave LGLOs/MCGLOs and join NPHC organizations, they no longer rep their original organization? No shit. That's why they dropped in the first place.

As PJ said, Sigma Lambda Gamma and Sigma Lambda Beta are both Latino-based organizations. Yes, both have chapters with multicultural membership, but this is the case with almost every organization. You're the only one who's confused.

Well, considering the NPHC organizations are 45-102 years old, it makes sense that aspirants would be exposed to them at an early age. LGLOs and MCGLOs are much younger, so aspirants aren't exposed to them the same way. That's common sense.

For what it's worth, Delta Gamma does have a national "hand sign" of sorts that we use when taking pictures--I was surprised to look on the bid day pictures thread and see it used in almost all of the DG pictures. No clue how long it's been around.
