That's odd considering he's already been on MTV as the boyfriend of music wannabe Cheyanne Kimball
From what I've heard about that: in highschool he was a drummer in a band in the Dallas area and their manager and Cheyenne's were one and the same. She was just starting to break into the biz, anyway, they asked him to be in a video (I guess because of his looks) and they became friends. MTV asked him to appear in her show and they kind of made it look like they "had a thing" but they didn't, they were just casual friends. Typical of reality TV - making something look like something it isn't.

He had been a drummer for years and didn't start singing until college. This is what's new for him, and he is surprisingly good at it, at least that's what the judges thought when they let him through.

You find if horrible that he tried out? That's kind of strong. Yes, he tried out, and God forgive him, he actually made the cut! What a terrible person

Isn't American Idol supposed to be about newbies trying out to see if they can make it? I find it more horrible (jk-too strong) that this year's season is full of people who have already given it a shot as professional singers, been rejected (dropped from their labels or shown the door by producers), and now are trying to repackage themselves as wide eyed naifs trying to break into the music business. American Idol shouldn't be about re-treads trying to get another shot at stardom. There is a sense of desperation seeping out of some of the contestants that is pungent, but I guess I'd feel the same way if I felt my life and future happiness depended upon my being able to make it as a performer. There- that's my rant!

As I said before, he is having a good time and will ride the wave as long as it lasts, but he has contingency plans if he doesn't become the American Idol of 2008. Is that so horrible??

I hope Jason realizes that he's playing with people's lives
Don't you think that's a bit strong? He's a kid, the same age as my sons, and no, I don't think he realizes that he's playing with people's lives. He's just trying to get by, just like the rest of us, except he has a lot less life experience to fall back on to help him make the right decisions.

I think he has probably felt deeper sympathy for people on mission trips he's taken to impoverished areas where people are living in mud huts with no sanitation. At least I hope so....

By agreeing to be a part of an internationally televised competition, he put himself in a position where he is going to be publicly discussed, critiqued, made fun of, adored, insulted, etc. He made the decision to put himself out there. We are all free to discuss him as we would like. I'm sorry that that makes you uncomfortable, but if you can't seperate out the person you know from the public discussion of him, perhaps you shouldn't read those discussions.

I don't think it's fair to ask anyone on GC to walk on eggshells because you know him and think he's a good guy.

My opinion on Jason:
He very well may be a good person. But, from his appearance on AI, he doesn't seem to really want to be there, and his songs have not to be up to par. He's a one-trick pony, he'd be great to listen to hanging out at the fraternity house or something, but not going to sell many records. It bothers me to hear that he doesn't want to be there, because there are plenty of others who are just as talented, if not MORE talented, that do want to be there and put in the hard work.

I'm torn on who I want to win. I hate to wish that fate on any of these competitors, because so many idol participants have been much more successful for NOT winning. I think David Cook's creative energy would be totally stiffled. Archuleta is the one who I almost want to win, sheerly because he fits in with what AI wants. I hate to see him "win" but is winning AI really "winning"?

No, actually I don't think it's a bit strong.

You have your ideas about what American Idol is "supposed" to be about. I've never heard anything on the show that supports the idea that the contestants have to be newbies. There is, however, an assumption that the contestants should actually want a career in music. If Jason doesn't want a career in music, he shouldn't be there.

^^^Co-sign, let David A. get the "title" and thus all the grooming and manipulating a 17-year-old would need in the business anyway. David C. should get runner-up and stride off into a major label contract and massive selling first-album without all the ties and constricts of the AI winner's contract.

Peace out

Didn't want to stir up a hornets nest. I'm a nice person too

You're right, I shouldn't read these posts, and I sure shouldn't post my feelings about them. My feelings about him as a person are tied up in it, I should just remember that he is basically a character on a show along with the other characters. It's just weird this season for me, because I actually know that the person is a person. I'm sure people who know Brooke hate reading that she's a "whiner" when in real life, she's probably a lovely person, etc.

Yep, this sums it up. No one has attacked him as a person, but instead as a competitor on this show.

Surely you have had some similar feelings for contestants on Survivor, Apprentice, Bachelor, America's Next Top Model, etc. There are contestants we root for and contestants we root against. No harm, no foul, nothing personal.

Getting back on track to AI... anyone else disapointed in the theme weeks this season? I mean, 2 weeks of Lennon/McCartney, a week of Dolly, a week of ALW, and now Neil Diamond? While I respect the bodies of work of each of these individuals, I just don't see how singing those styles help to crown a pop singer.

And co-sign David Cook in the runner-up position. Best thing that could happen to him would be to NOT win this competition.

I'm a Jason fan!

I am a big fan of Jason's - when he sang Alleluia, I had shivers it was so beautiful. I am glad he is on AI!!

I also really like Brooke and Syesha.

David Cook is probably my favorite (although I truly wanted Michael Johns to stay longer)

Carly annoyed me when she sang with the way her facial expression seemed to get so angry looking! She does have a great voice though...

David Archuelata needs to go - Mr GPhiBLtCol and I cringe whenever he's on - his voice is okay - but if you think Taylor Hicks was forgettable...well we think David A will beat that hands down!

It is kind of disturbing what you are saying, as if American Idol, and who wins, is going to be detrimental to society. Lol, Vote for who you want to win, and the person who gets the most votes, deserves it. Thats the game, that is all it is. I think if people want Brooke or Jason in, then great. If people want David A., great. Just respect that others are allowed to have their vote to, based on whatever criteria they want. This is not about if they have more experience or little experience, but it could be, if that's how YOU want to vote. However, if the judges and/or the voters want to vote for the experience, well then more power to them. Power to the people, i guess, lol. With that said, and in the spirit of what I just said: this is just my opinion, and I respect that you have yours. (I hate when people say 'i respect your opinion' as a means to say you are entitled to have... you merely respect that they have an opinion, not the opinion itself). AND with that said, we all have our opinions, etc... I don't think Archie has anything special to add. His performances have been consistently similar and that doesn't show much of a range. Jason atleast takes risk although he is the weaker singer. I like Syesha. I think she has the most personality, she just needs to run away from stereotypical performances. I don't think she has the support to win, so I am hoping it will be David C. I think it is the Davids in the end. HOWEVER, history has shown, in the coming weeks, the voters will think one of them is safe, and they will shockingly be eliminated. I think though. Possibly next week, although, i think Syesha will go. Brooke and Jason have the fan base to carry them. I can only call for Syesha so many times, lol.

I don't know is Syesha has the support to win, but I can tell you that there is a BIG following for her all through souther florida because she's from here. FIU is encouraging all students to vote for her and her fans are featured on our nightly local entertainment news show "Deco Drive" & the regular local news every week before voting takes place having big watching parties. I guess I should get on the phone for her too, but I hate AI and haven't watched regularly since Clay lost. Ooh...I forgot to mention Ramiel had them too, they weren't as large, but she's from the city where I live so they were right down the road and on tv as well every week.

I wasn't all that impressed tonight. I don't think anyone was wonderful. With that said, I didn't think Syesha was as bad as the judges made it seem. And I don't think David A was as great as the judges made it seem.

don't read this, srmom!

I absolutely cringed throughout both of Jason's performances tonight. Maybe it's because I now have in the back of my mind that he really doesn't want to be there, but wow, did it look like he really doesn't want to be there! He just looks uncomfortable.

It was almost laughable when they went into the review montage -- right after Syesha's performance (which I thought was tremendous), it went into Jason's 2 painful performances, then David Cook's 2 great performances and then right to Brooke's AWFUL first song, looking goofy and bouncing along. She was better in the second song, but the first was ridiculous. Then David A and Syesha both delivered both of their songs.

The final three should be Syesha and the 2 Davids. Jason or Brooke have to go home this week. I don't care who, just one of them.

I think Syesha will go home. I think Brooke or Jason SHOULD go home. I think Syesha was WONDERFUL, but the judges don't seem to like her that much. It seems like though that everyone know Syesha, Jason and Brooke are just fighting for third... based on talent, i think that is Syesha. Maybe Simon's comments are going to help her because people will fear she is leaving... we will see, Usually around this time or in the next coming weeks, someone will go home that is a TOTAL shocker. I think that won't happen this year, but maybe to many people with think Cook or Archeleta is safe

The final 3 SHOULD be... Syesha, David A and David C.......
Syesha could come out next week like Tina Turner and kill it and she will be in the Bottom 2 and the judges will find something wrong..while David A could sneeze and the judges will call it BRILLIANT.. she's fighting for 3rd.. it has to be frustrating to know that someone like Jason is getting by on charm and SUPER WEAK Vocals....
