I know my daughter wanted to be in a sorority because it makes a large campus, smaller.

We actually talked about her joining some other clubs or groups on campus if things didn't work out with rush. Of course, being in a sorority was her first choice...but she knew that there would be other options if it didn't work out.

Where I was raised being in a top-tier house at certain schools probably would help you with things like joining the Jr League and other social organizations, but at the same time, the women you do those things with are the same women you went to school with since kindergarten, so I don't know if it is the sorority membership as much as an insular community. There were always one or two women who went out of state or were just "different" who sometimes came home to roost and were welcomed even if they never joined a sorority.

I have posted this on other threads but my brother told me prior to my sorority recruitment (when I was a little pup) that

"It doesnt matter if you get into the "best" sorority as long as you graduate from the best."

I didn't know it when he told me but I realized after graduation that I did graduate from the Best sorority and I am sure that most people who pledged a sorority thinks that they graduated from the best too.

Then again I went to a university with 4 sororities and in that situation things change rapidly - with 4 well known national sororities they were all pretty good - and I had friends in all of them so really I couldnt go wrong anyway.

Just my 2 cents

I hate to "hi-jack" this list, but I must say this something I have quoted to the undergraduate students many times. I have had students ask me to get out of assignments because they were "Greek" and since many of them knew I was Greek (I had my GLOs letters all over my desk); they justified/excused their tardiness with their assignments by saying, "But you remember how busy you were when you where in the sorority..." (By the way...for other women or men wanting to attempt this, may I warn you that this is NOT how you make friends with your professor/lecturer!) Anyway...my reply was always, "You came to college to learn how to think, NOT join a sorority/fraternity".

Thanks for this advice. I hope all women and men remember that their EDUCATION should be their top priority!!!

I read somewhere that Tridelta at Alabama got 71 new members...if quota was 75 (i think) does that mean that they were eligible to take more girls, and if they did or not? I know people were posting that matching was continuing at Bama even after Bids were handed out. No update has been made to the bid list on the ua site...

Just curious.

I haven't heard anything about Tri-Delt not making quota. I'll have to check my sources!!

Are sororities required to snap bid? If Tri-Delt only needed 71 girls to get their house total up, then they probably don't need to snap bid anyone. Also, and this will sound bad, but they are an 'Old Row' house and may decide they'd rather not take girls that weren't number 1 on their list.

My daughter said that DZ got 83 girls. Tr-Delt only 71? Isn't that a particularly large difference? Why would Tri-Delt want only 71? Or did they only find 71 they really liked? Please grant me a little leeway for asking what are likely elementary questions of you experts.

Actually, it seems she should worry about Graduating from HS first before she gets to worried about College GLOs.

clarification?

Hi Tom. Just wanted to say that if you're referring to BamaDaughter, she's already a student at Alabama, and a new DZ!

I don't have any additional info other than I checked out the published list of UA pledges and Tri-Delt is in fact showing only 71. I'll ask around and see if I can find something out. I'll also see if anyone knows about any additional snaps or COR efforts since that list was published.

However I have learned something interesting and sort of confusing. As a reminder UA has two seperate quotas, one for Freshmen (69 this year) and another for Upperclassmen (6). I found out Panhellenic only reports the Freshmen quota number to the I/Natls. I guess the Upperclassmen are viewed kind of like quota additions. I wonder if in Tri-Delts I/Natls' eyes they did meet quota with 71 even if they missed the on campus quota total of 75?

I'm happy that they all got bids. My favorite went GPhiB...but I really want an AXO in this bunch! There are two more Bid Days!
Congrats to your Bama girls! I'm glad to see a KD in the bunch (not to mention another straight outta Longwood)!

Not sure if you are still interested since rush is over...but my daughter can't stop talking about how sweet all the girls are! She is so disappointed that she can't wear her letters yet, not until after initiation. Of course, not knowing this...I sent her a huge basket full of Pi Phi stuff...it's gonna have to wait in her room for now. More waiting....
The Pi Phis at Baylor were allowed to wear lettered items, but they had to cover up the beta. I'm not sure how that works elsewhere.

Cover up the Beta? I have never heard of such and I can't figure out why they'd do that!
