yeah, looking back i should have kept my feelings about amanda to myself.

actually, when i first entered the pledge process i didn't want to live in the house. i was totally camera shy and it made me really nervous. one of the sisters convinced me to give it a try. and i was asked repeatedly to consider living in the house because i am Jewish and few of the others were. also, this is going to come off conceded, but i don't mean it that way, i am involved in lots of things on campus, including a fabulous peer counseling program, i have good grades, a career plan, and two jobs. so i thought, silly me, that maybe mtv would portray those things along with all the madness. i thought that seeing all the options there are for college women would be wonderful for younger girls, in essence, a contrast to britney's image. however, that didn't quite go as planned.

i am not stupid, i realized mtv would focus on the drinking, catfights, and boys. but i did think that other elements would potentially be included.

i didn't know other greeks had been approached. i don't know if sigma knew or not. but mtv made an attractive offer, i am amazed that someone didn't pick it up sooner. they have found a season two house, so i think this is just the beginning. i hope the new cast members have learned from our mistakes!

Speaking as someone who lives in the Bay Area, Mara's right about the
Tenderloin. Speaking as a Jewish man (although not actively
practicing), for a woman to refer to herself as a JAP is no big deal,
sort of a self-referential ironic practice that many cultural groups
have adopted. I honestly don't see what the fuss is about. Being
able to look at yourself in a kidding sort of way and have some fun
with it is a sign of maturity.

I really don't care what anyone calls themselves. i call myself a bi**h sometimes. If i am being one, I don't care if someone else calls me that. So that JAP thing, I believe, is completely up to Mara if that is what she wants to be called. However, I am not Jewish and grew up in a predominantly christian neighborhood and went to a predominantly christian school, so i don't know much about the Jewish culture. However, I am willing to learn and open my eyes a bit.

So has Sigma gotten any flack from Panhellenic or any other students on campus?

If this is really mara, i'm glad that you came to the board.

BUT... I have my doubts. I know that you guys are under contract that you were not allowed to speak to anyone about the show until it was over. And since it's not over yet.

If other GCers can remember, sigmainsider also reiterated that they were not allowed to speak to anyone about this until the show is over, which makes perfect sense.

The only place i have ever seen any of you speak is on the message boards at MTV, where they can definately monitor what you say.

So that's why i'm skeptical that this is really Mara. I'm sure, knowing MTV, that their lawyers aren't stupid, and this would be a violation of the privacy clause that you had to sign to.

Hmm, so the term JAP, meaning Jewish American Princess is just like the word BAP, meaning Black American Princess.....

Cool!

I'm glad I'm not the only girl can't live without her Fendi bag

OK, well while the rest of you remain skeptical I have a question for
Mara:

Can you give an example of some things that happened that didn't make
it onto the show but were still fun/interesting/important? It seems
like the only thing MTV has been showing so far is the bonding among
the six "pledge house pledges" and very little interaction between the
pledge house pledges and the rest of the pledge class, or bettween
pledges and actives (except when there's conflict). I feel like most
of the interesting stuff has been cut out because it wasn't dramatic
enough, or just didn't fit into the SL producers' idea of a coherent
narrative.

Obviously you are still under some sort of MTV non-disclosure, but is
there anything else you can share that would give us a better
perspective on the Sigmas/Sigma pledges and how this whole MTV thing
affected all of you?

Thanks.

Mara you don't seem like the type to even care about philanthropys or helping others out. Weren't you the one who said that the rock thing was stupid on an episode? When the whole point was to get your pledgeclass to work together since being in a sorority is getting past your differences and being able to work together to accomplish a goal whether it be planning an event or doing a philanthropy?
I've caught up on the last two weeks and I couldn't even finish watiching the episodes, but I must say I thought Candace and Amanda were the rudest. I also thought they were very distatseful in getting so plastered. I couldn't believe how rude some of the girls dates were. You can drink anytime-- this is a sisterhood formal which happens at most once a semester(??????) One should be able to hold out before they get all rowdy and need some space(in reference to the one guy who felt claustrophobic!)

Actually this statement is pretty unfair. No one knows exactly what "type" of person anyone on SL is. All we know is what MTV portrayed for us. Now, some of their ACTIONS were pretty tasteless, but on a whole we only really got to see the caricature the SL editors wanted us to see. Think of how fun SL would have been if they had enjoyed the sisterly bonding rituals and done nothing but philanthropy. Yawn, lol.

Not that I should be really surprised, but I guess I am at the lack of actual "sisterhood" or sorority related activity I've seen on the show. I know that editing is a powerful thing but come on. The distinction between sisters and pledges bothers the hell out of me. No wonder those girls don't feel a part of it! Where are any big/lil bonding? What the hell. Sorry, just had to add that.

Perhpaps that was an unfair statement I made, but it is my opinion. I never hear the girls talk about anything importance except when DeeDee's uncle and Jordan's nana died. Mainly the show seems to be about catfights, and yes I know that there is a lot of editing.

actually, last year i was the coordinator for the peer counseling program at davis. it is a hotline/drop-in service for students. i also work two jobs, one as an academic advisor, and the second as a gymnastics coach. you, the audience, don't see these things for several reasons. counseling is of course confidential, and cannot be filmed. UCD did not allow filming on campus. and my gymnasts are minors and thus cannot be portrayed for a large number of reasons. so i am not trying to praise myself or make you believe i am not selfish, i did do some selfish things on the show, but there is another side to my personality, that doesn't necessarily come through.

i can't talk about the show very much, contracts and what not. but i can talk about myself.

as far as sigma goes...i was surprised that the community service didn't make it to filming, no one left that early i guess that makes it uninteresting? but we went to salvation army and cleaned/sorted things for them, read to children, helped at a nursing home. i LOVE my big sis. she and i are pretty close.
