I like the mascots too. My dad works for a tour company (they take groups of tourists from Asia on tours of places like NYC, DC, Boston, Niagara Falls, etc.) and a lot of their customers are from China. So he's gotten a bunch of Olympics keychains and cellphone charms, which he gave to me.
I have this keychain.
I have the red guy cellphone charm.
And I have this cellphone charm, but with the green girl.

That sounds like something you'd see on To Catch A Predator. Kinda shady.

I looked at page 2 and couldn't find anything strange. I kept looking and I think what you are referring to is now on page 5. Gross.

They're big here in Seattle and the suburbs, too. Country clubs and neighborhood swim clubs. I grew up doing swim and dive team. I was so surprised when I went to college in Calif. and met so many people that didn't know how to swim! I figured it must have been because the kids grew up going to the beach and just played around in their backyard pools instead of swimming actual strokes and laps as part of a team.

I grew up in the suburbs. All the neighborhood kids knew how to swim (we had an in-ground pool, so they'd all be over at our house on hot summer days). When I went off to college, I was surprised at how many people didn't know to swim. There's a bunch of girls in my chapter that can't swim. It seems like it's the girls who grew up in the suburbs that know how to swim, while the girls who grew up in the city who don't know how to swim (same thing with driving). Also, from talking with some girls from my chapter, it seems like suburban high schools tend to have swimming as a required gym class, while urban high schools do not.

we need to have an inter-sport draft. while it wouldnt be practical to have a dude with a Shaq-type body to swim the 200M freestyle, it sure as hell would be funny.
and Michael Phelps may or may not hold his own on the court. it would make interesting reality TV im sure. Who needs gold medals when you have ratings and pending endorsement deals?

hehehe, true. i wonder, timewise, how you can get changed, swim, showered and changed again for swimming in a 45-minute period? were those classes longer?

I think we had double-gym at my school - it was every other day for two periods or something like that.

They are actually faster than a Speedo - and they've been around a really long time. When I was back in high school I dated a swimmer and he had one of the Spandex pants looking suits. I forget the appropriate name but I'm guessing someone else on the thread will know it.

They don't really have a name, per se - I've always called them bodyskins. They're just for competition and are much faster than traditional suits. For practice a lot of swimmers wear a regular suit and a drag suit (an old stretched out suit) and occasionally pantyhose with the feet cut off and drag shorts (looser fitting short shorts). For less-important meets I had a fast suit that looked like a regular suit, and I wore the full-length suit for major competitions. My competition suit was similar to this:
