I think the border will end up like that of Mexico to stop the drugs from coming in. If it is legal in Canada then people will try to bring it here from there.

Canada is already the largest importer of Cannibas related drugs to the States. I should point out it wouldn't be legal, it just would be what we refer to as a summery conviction (i think you guys refer to it as a misdemenor), as opposed to an indictable (felony) one, which it is right now (though rarly inforced).

Crazy I read this .... William Doyle, who wrote a book about events at the University of Mississippi in 1962, “An American Insurrection,” said in an interview that the 716th Military Police Battalion, acting on a tip, raided the house of the Sigma Nu fraternity, of which Lott was president, and removed 21 shotguns, a .30-caliber rifle and a .22-Colt pistol. Lott, according to Doyle, declined to be interviewed for the book.... I never knew about that but this doesn't help his case on not being a racist. It is funny how fraternity affilation always seems to be brought up when something goes wrong, like the Drexel TKE thing. Here is the article where I saw the quote...

Re: Trent Lott, a segregationist even as a collegian
I believe the Grand Chapter was in 1967 (could have been earlier). We did desegregate in 1969 following a vote with a margin of victory of one vote (according to an alumnus I spoke with at the last Grand Chapter who was present).
If you knew the format of the Grand Chapter you'd realize that it would be difficult for just ONE delegate to stand out as a supporter of a certain piece of legislation. I'd imagine that they were lined up at the microphones. At any rate, the reporting there paints a slightly untrue picture as if Mr. Lott ran the floor during that debate or something.. which is just not true (or really possible).
I'm glad that the change occured in '69. I think up to that point we were definitely not being true to our values of Love Honor and Truth.

Saw this on 20/20 a few months back. I don't disagree with using minority status to some extent but as I understood the Michigan points system, more points are awarded because of your race than you would get for a perfect SAT score.

Ask the AWB (a christian fundamentalist group who use the bible to legitimate apartheid and the bombing of those that are not white, which happen to be funded by many right wing groups in the states) about the bible, and they'll tell you, according to the bible, that those who are not white are animals and must be segreated from White Christians.
Tell you that different people have different interpretation about holy books.

That actually reinforces my argument
Certain people have different interpretations of their religion. Some are more militant than others. The ones to which I was originally referring to were militants. The statement was very contextual. Taking one word out of something I wrote and then trying to make an argument about it apart from the context in which it was written seems very unproductive

Not that i'm defending segregation or violence, but how does the possession of shotguns at the Sigma Nu house equal racism?
I'm pretty dang sure that if you go out to our house right now there are probably a couple of shotguns out there, but that doesn't make us racists. That just makes us a fraternity with some members who own firearms for hunting or shooting.
