It's my understanding that bids go out at 6ish today?

Which is why I'm confused that DG Illinois's rec girl has received a bid already? I thought they kind of had someone doing that as bids were going out?

I have heard of this happening on U of I's campus before. During my freshmen year, another highly selective chapter did a few snap bids* on bid day.

*this is the correct definition of a snap bid, right?

I think this is exactly what happened. Looking at ASU (or was it Arizona?) several chapters missed quota by a long way, chapters that are historically strong. So chapter A didn't make quota and went through the list of un-placed girls, went back through their rankings, and voila! Match. The part I am a little confused about is when the chapter voted on her. Did they know going into Pref that they were going to miss quota? Do they do a hurried vote at noon before bid day activities start?

Congratulations on her pulling a win out of a potential disaster.

Nevermind...I had snap & QA mixed up in my brain...

But there still seems to be a lot of funk 'n stuff going on here and I'm wondering if someone's confused or not conveying the message properly...

Yes. From MOI:

If the preferential bidding system is used, women who indicate an intentional single
preference and do not receive an invitation to membership are eligible for snap bidding and
COB, but they are not eligible for quota addition.
Resolved (1995), That a potential new member who withdraws from the fully structured
recruitment process before the signing of her membership acceptance shall be eligible for
snap bidding and COB.

We need to think of a good way to remember "if you suicide, you can't be a quota addition, but you can be a snap bid."

I was thinking it was not making quota as well. I was surprised because she had suicided and I thought that was the thing that would hurt her the most.
From talking with her, there were other girls that had to go in as well because they were being offered bids from houses that had released them 3rd round and they did not pref. Most of the girls were like her, very confused but crying because they were so happy. She was there by 11 AM with the other girls so it was taken care of quickly. Each pnm discussed it privately with panhell, so it's not like she knew what house each girl was getting a surprise bid offer from. But she did talk with some of the girls when they left and the bids were from houses they had been cut from 3rd party. My PNM is so happy. I am waiting for my niece and her best friend to update me as they did not receive a call and they should be there around 5PM. I think the reveal is at 6PM, not 100% sure on this. I did hear from all the girls that there were girls that were suiciding. It was taken care of this morning though, after what I'm sure was a crazy night for panhell.
I was really surprised and confused when I heard this as well. She doesn't have the bid in hand, she was advised she would receive her bid with everyone else today. But she had not written their name down (since she didn't pref them) so she needed to advise them if she would accept the bid.
Only the girls that were not matched were there and they told them they did not match, but they had been offered a bid by a different house.
It was the house that the bid was coming from that was surprising to me.

I'm glad for your PNM, but it's too bad she won't have the pleasure of attending preference at her new home. It's always such a beautiful experience. But, wow, what a head-spinning turn of events for her!

Me, too! I still have mine, and my anchor nametag with my name spelled out in pearls. And of course taking pictures in front of the white anchor on the lawn. Congrats to your girl!

So do I! And I was just there over Mother's Day weekend and did you know Teresa is still the house Mom after all these years? All the girls were wonderful and so sweet to my 11 year old daughter...I was very proud to show her around and she loved it!

I keep checking FB for Bid Day pictures, but nothing so far!

Double-post, but Teresa is SO awesome. I met her on several occasions, and she was so precious!

Thanks so much everyone for the info. It was wonderful for her because she was a double legacy and loved them and then did not receive an invite to pref.
To say her Mom and Grandma were over the moon would be an understatement.
Now I am just waiting to get the call or text from my niece!

My other rec girl had a happier ending than my first - she is a new Chi Omega, apparently her early and consistent favorite!
