I couldn't agree more. Hairbows are also a no-no!

Huh??? What do you do to pull your hair back without putting it into a ponytail? Or are you talking about the colorful sparkly ones?

I think she's referring to the elastic bands wrapped in big mounds of unattractive fabric, like this-

There's a difference between collecting Madame Alexander collectors' pieces and even Collectors' Edition Barbies within their boxes and keeping dolls that are marketed solely for play (ie, American Girl). The former, which is what the people you listed primarily collect, is marketed to adults; the latter to 8-year olds.

There is one appropriate place for scrunchies: on the head of a six year old, or with your bath room beauty supplies so you can pull your hair back to wash your face.
I had a recent roommate who used to wear these. Yuck! When it wasn't in her hair, she wore it on her hand like a bracelet.

And while we're talking hair... those clip-on hair pieces that are becoming ever so popular at stands in the middle of the mall is NEVER a good look. For anyone.

Me three. In December '94, my favorite "outfit" was a red flannel zip-up with green MC hammer style jeans! If I was in a grungish mood, I wore those black cord necklaces with a peace sign and combat boots. I had like four tiny silver hoops in each ear to complete everything. If I were in a more thuggish mood, I wore a gold chain and door knob earrings, with black rebok b-ball shoes.
Oh man, I looked like a hot mess!
*the gold chain was from Claire's and only cost like $12.

My mother has a HUGE collection of antique dolls (mostly from the 1920's) that she inherited from her aunt. She has added a few dolls from family & friends when they have traveled to other countries and from various auctions. She probably has over 500 dolls. Not ONE American Girl doll. (She does have a porcelin Sleeping Beauty doll that I got her in Disney-Paris, however.)

Does this remind anyone of the SATC episode where Carrie made fun of Berger because the main character in his book wore a scrunchie?
