Uh I've been in north Mississippi, and it was super shabby. All the roads were rough as gravel, and everything was run down all to hell. Ole Miss probably does have a nice campus, but if it does, it's a diamond in the rough from what I've seen. I've only been to Huntsville in AL, it seemed fine. That's part of the reason I was kinda leaning toward Alabama. That and there's probably more to do in Tuscaloosa than in Oxford (I may be wrong, but I have a feeling I'm right).
Just out of Curiosity, do you guys even consider Florida part of the SEC? All this SEC talk, and no one is representing from the Swamp. What gives?
Also is there any stadiums down there owned by the school, or are they all state funded?

Get off my back dude, I was a poor immigrant who was forced through endless hours of ESL and can't keep up with you American kids. I should have been in EFL really.

Those pictures make me homesick. My husband and I recruit high school students in North Carolina for Bama. The word in the recruiting office is that if a student makes the trip to campus, he/she is hooked. It has to be one of the most beautiful campuses in existence - particularly in the spring!

Not true. I like cried every night during orientation because I wanted to be somewhere else. I do agree that Alabama has a pretty campus though.
I think southern schools in general are just beautiful in the spring. Except Knoxville...my sister went there and I used to tell her jokingly how beautiful all the concrete was. Truthfully pretty much every SEC school has something special. I like the fact that at UT you can take a yacht to the football games---and they have the largest stadium in the SEC.

No no...there are 2 Mickey Ds...I meant the only bar/grille chains...we have fast food!! Just not on the square. Plus, there's the Chevron...ok and don't laugh. Gas station food sounds gross. But just take a look at the parking lot at about midnight...Who wants Taco Bell or Wendy's when you can have chicken on a stick? Most people have to park across the street.
But if that were the scenerio..I'd call an Ole Miss sorority girl and ask what they are having for dinner at the house.

Years ago, when my Dad was visiting New Orleans he attended a Tulane football game between the Green Wave and the Crimson Tide. Tulane was, by a sort of miracle, threatening and the 'Bama side started singing a song that made everyone stop and listen. It was the old Civil War song "Roll, Alabama Roll!" about the fight between the CSS Alabama and the USS Kearsarge. Dad said it was weird, it made the hairs on his neck stand up and everyone around him was awe struck by the sound of the 'Bama fans. Well, Tulane was out of its depth against Alabama and the result was predictable, but the funny thing was that when he asked some of the 'Bama DEKEs if they used 'Roll, Alabama Roll' to get fired up when the opposing team was threatening he was told no, that they had never heard it before. He has told this story many times and the answer is always the same. Lots of people know the song, especially if they are from Alabama, but none of them remember ever hearing it at a 'Bama game.

I will tell you Univ of Arkansas is beautiful come spring and fall time. The trees changing colors and the historic buildings are beautiful with the foil backdrop and sun hitting Old Main standing so tall on the hill. The Chi Omega Greek Ampitheater dueing spring to lay out and study, Razorback stadium and the sounds of football games. Ahhhhhh i miss school. Really love seeing senior walk with your name itched on it. But what i really enjoy seeing when i was back there last was Old Carnell Hall changed into a bed and breakfast INN. Southern Universities GOTTA LOVE THEM!

I had to jump in on this post!!
NO ONE and I mean NO ONE beats the SEC as far as academics, beautiful campuses, and die hard football!!

I have a question: Why on earth would you want to be drunk and shouting at the football field in a dress and heels, especially in the hot, humid 90 degree September sunshine? I mean, here at OU, you don't sit during football.
|
It is a southern tradition and classy! Trust me, us Southern ladies do not complain!
The University of Alabama is the most beautiful campus I have ever stepped foot on. I have been to many schools in the SEC, and it still remains the best!! Tuscaloosa is a fun place!!!
My boyfriend and his family hail from Baton Rouge and are loyal LSU fans, so I have to give them props too. You will never find moreloyal fans.....those fans will travel ANYWHERE!!! If LSU is visiting, you can count on half their fan base to be there! My boyfriend and I have made it a tradition to attend the Bama/LSU (I bleed crimson and white) game every year...3 years going. The year that we travelled to Baton Rouge....it was very interesting. I had ice thrown at me and was pushed by a 45 year old lady because I was wearing Bama colors! Thankfully, we beat them!! Although they beat the pants off of us this year and were National Champs! I was fortunate enough to be there and it was great!
As for the Bama/AU rivalry, yes, we really do hate each other that much on game day! It is the most amazing game you will ever attend! My best friend attends AU, and it really is a giant trailer park! I have never seen so many trailers packed in one town in my life!!

OMG, Nut, you've brought back many memories with that picture. When I was a child, my grandmother lived in Fayetteville and we would go to the Greek Theatre and play. When I became a cheerleader at UA, all our pep rallies were there--the cheerleaders were up on the stage.
