800 points and a giant cookie to the person (besides DA ) that names that musical.
This brought me out of lurkage, despite the fact that it's a month old, because I am so excited that other people have heard of this show!
"I will not wait until the snow beneath me thaws--I will escape your Santa claws!" --Songs for a New World

For equally obscure Jason Robert Brown:
"I could have a mansion on the hill
I could lease a villa in Seville
But it wouldn't be as nice as a summer in Ohio
With a gay midget named Karl, playing Tevia and Porgy"

Yay...it's such a great show. I convinced one of my friends at church to work up "King of the World" for either Maundy Thursday or Good Friday this year.

So....

Whoops, almost fell Murray
The mother of your children
Splattered across Fifth Avenue
In a bloody heap, Murray
And it's all your fault

My favorite song to perform

But my favorite lyrics...
"I'll give you stars and the moon and a soul to guide you
And a promise I'll never go
I'll give you hope to bring out all the life inside you
And the strength that will help you grow.
I'll give you truth and a future that's twenty times better
Than any Hollywood plot."
And I thought, "You know, I'd rather have a yacht."

Potipher was counting sheckels in his den below the bedroom when he heard a mighty rumpus clattering above him.
Suddenly he knew his riches couldn't buy him what he wanted.
Gold would never make him happy if she didn't love him.

Letting out a mighty roar
Potipher burst through the door
Joseph I'll see you rot in jail
The things you have done are beyond the pale

Poor poor Joseph locked up in a cell
Things aren't going well hey locked up in a cell

"It's hard to speak my heart..."

(Since we're on the Jason Robert Brown theme, DASon "won" the Individual Achievement -- Solo Vocal at the Colorado and International Thespian Festival with this song in 2001 -- Brown is one of his favorite composers)

My Gawd, the memories, we did this in highschool. In senior year we were required to put on Julius Caesar, A Man for All Seasons, and Guys and Dolls. All graduating seniors were required to be active in the "Phils" (the Phililectic Society). This made for some interesting casting. Usually the more hopeless ones among us could be backstage crew, but not always.

"She is eternal, long before nations lines were drawn,
When no flags flew, when no armies stood,
my land was born.
And you ask me why I love her,
through wars, death and despair,
She is the constant, we who don't care.
And you wonder will leave her,
But how?
I cross over borders, but I'm still there, now."

And The Rhythm Of Life is a powerful beat,
Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet,
Rhythm in your bedroom,
Rhythm in the street,
Yes, The Rhythm Of Life is a powerful beat,
To feel The Rhythm Of Life,
To feel the powerful beat,
To feel the tingle in your fingers,
To feel the tingle in your feet,

(OMG I love this musical. I sang this song and Big Spender in choir. The only bad thing was my director putting his tacky movements to it. LOL. Try doing a box step in heels, with a long dress on, on risers where you barely have enough room to walk in the first place. Not fun. Ahh but the memories. )

And I woke one day, and I looked around, and I thought, "My God...I'll never have the moon."

They are not nice,
They're mostly noise.
They swear like men,
They screw like boys.

I see no point in singing Fosse music in a choral setting...the songs have nothing to do with singing, and everything to do with Fosse's dancing.

"They're already here."

(Once I attended an Eastern Star meeting where all the grand poobahs were introduced and escorted to the tune "Send in the Clowns" and I just giggled)
