I'm doing this from work, so everybody feel free to chime in with any pockets I might be missing or correct me on the things that sounded like I pulled it out of my ass.
Show starts off with Rory in her Chilton uniform and Lorelai running out the door because she's off to Hawaii (interesting note, because LG was actually born in Honolulu). Rory heads to the kitchen to find Paris serving a meal to Doyle and what looks like her family. Her refrigerator has photos of Paris and Hilary Rodham Clinton and a bunch of other worldly dignitaries. They ask Rory what she's doing in their kitchen and Rory replies, "This is my house." Paris says, "We've been through this before -- it's still your house...in your heart." Paris and Doyle hand Rory her orange community service jumpsuit and trash picker upper and they tell her to hurry up or else she'll be late for work. She then wakes up from her dream.
Commercial and then the GGs are having Friday night dindin at Richard and Emily's. Gma and Gpa tell Rory that they bought an apartment in Manhattan, perfect for Rory to live in while she does her fellowship at the NYT. Rory then reveals that she didn't get the fellowship, and you can tell Lorelai's kind of irritated because she had to hear about it for the first time with Gma and Gpa.
Later the next day, Paris is hosting a "Yale Students who got into Harvard Med School" party at the apartment. Rory, who just received a letter from the Chicago Tribune saying they're not hiring at this time, decides to give the peeps in Providence a call. Remember that this is the job that wanted her, but she told em no because she was waiting for the NYT fellowship. Well, the Providence peeps pretty much told her, "Too bad, so sad -- you told us no so we got someone else." Pauvre Rory.
While at the diner, Lorelai runs into Miss Patty and Babette, who are speaking in whisper because they're saving their voices for Karaoke night. Lorelai's eyes get big because she notices that Luke's wearing a blue hat she bought for him during their relationship. He's no longer wearing that dreary black one he's being wearing since they broke up. I swear, who the hell notices these things? A hat's a hat. Naturally Lorelai reports her findings to Sookie at the inn, who's still coming up with one weird concoction after another since she's knocked up again.
On the Lane and Zach front, Zach gets a gig of a lifetime when he's asked to be lead guitarist on a tour that'll last two months. I guess Hep Alien's on a break? Initially Lane thinks about packing up the boys and following him on the tour, but ultimately decides that she can't, but she'll go his shows in NYC, Boston, and Philly.
Luke's excited for his boat trip with April, who, I noticed is calling him "Dad" now. She's probably been calling him dad for several episodes now, but you know me -- I don't pay attention. April bursts his bubble though, because she's been accepted into a Science Program especially for 8th graders during the time of the planned boat trip. Luke's bummed, but he tells his daughter to go.
The whole town (including Gypsy and Lulu, who I haven't seen in a while) is at that Karaoke bar. Miss Patty and Babette reserved the first 15 songs just for them, including "FEVER!," one of my ultimate favs. Rory, still kinda stuck in a rut after things don't go her way for the 2nd time in her perfect life, tells her mom that what would really cheer her up is if Lorelai got up on stage and sang a song. Lorelai replies that she's not that drunk yet, so Rory orders shizzots. Lorelai gets her ass on stage and proceeds to her rendition of "I Will Always Love You." Lane tells Rory that Lorelai never struck her as a Whitney fan, but then Rory says that it's probably Dolly's version she's singing.
It starts off goofy and left me thinking, "wow....LG can actually carry a tune." You can tell that Lorelai's doing her drunk karaoke thing....and then in a nanosecond she sobers up when Luke walks into the bar. Next thing you know, her eyes are fixed on him while she's singing what is probably the worst ever song you could possibly sing while drunk at a karaoke bar. The entire bar gives her a loud applause and the Stars Hollow peeps all clutch their invisible external hearts because they're all very well aware of the Luke and Lorelai love story.
Last scene....
Rory's gone back to school and Lorelai gets a knock on the door. It's Logan. They discuss his successful couple of days on the Left Coast and he reveals that he's got a great offer in San Francisco.
And then...he asks...for Lorelai's permission...to marry Rory.
Fade to end Executive Producer credits.
Next week, Rory graduates from Yale. I'm assuming that Lorelai gave Logan her permish, but she looks surprised and almost mortified when Logan pulls out the ring at what I'm assuming is Rory's graduation party at R&E's house. Christopher's also there (next to Lorelai when she says "He's not going to ask her now..."). Funny how he could make it to Rory's Yale graduation but he couldn't make it to her graduation from Chilton....?
I'm wondering if this is the last episode A S-P wrote for the GG? I know she already wrote Rory's Yale Graduation before she left, so I'm hoping that it'll be chock full of that A S-P pizzazz that's been totally lacking this season. I don't recall if they said that this was the season/series finale....but I really hope it isn't.
Anyway, that was last night's episode. Thank you for distracting me from actually doing work just now. I needed that break.
