it has also come to my attention that many of these orgs are equal to clubs (no disrespect intended) in their importance in paying dues and remaining on campus.

That being said, I can understand why many of us in the NPHC (BGLOS/MCGLOS/LGLOS) are having difficulty relating with many of the topics listed.

I do apologize if we have offended anyone but you have to understand where we're coming from.

I think you might want to say "some chapters of these orgs."

Believe me, if all NPC & NIC groups and all the chapters in these groups were completely laissez-faire about getting things done none of them would exist. I don't deny there are some slackers whose raison d'etre is having more mixers than parties and anyone else, but they are the exception not the rule. I'm sure there are some BGLO/MCGLO/LGLO chapters that are like that too.

Thanks Jocelyn. Then that is something else we do not do in the NPHC. Print shirts with our symbols on them to be given to attendees of an event.
The party shirts that we have aren't given out to non-members. I didn't think any org gave out shirts with letters or symbols to non-members.

My thing is, why would you use someone's fraternity/sorority pen or mug. Are there no others around?

My letters are only to be worn by people who are members of my organization...point blank. That's proper protocol.

I just don't get the pen thing. I always carry Gamma Phi Beta pens in my purse because it's a good way to start a conversation with someone who may also be Greek. If the lady in front of me in line wants to use it to write a check, I don't think my founders will have a beef with that.

The only beer steins I have are ones that my boyfriend's fraternity gave away at a formal. My dad drinks out of them when he is visting. If for whatever bizarre reason one of my neighbors saw and asked my dad if he was a SigEp too, I'm sure he would just explain, "No, but my daughter's boyfriend is."

I have let others use my pen, if they don't have one. I don't have a problem with someone using an item when I am right there. However, from his post, I get the impression that it wasn't a necessity. Using my coffee cup is not a necessity (I have a problem with anyone using one of my special coffee cups--this extends beyond just AKA mug). Again, I don't have a problem with someone using a pen, if they do not have one handy. However, I do not understand the unnecessary use of items with my letters when I am not around. Trust, I'm actually doing them a favor

It doesn't matter; a pen is a pen and a mug is a mug. Period.

I am not talking about wearing letters (apologies if this wasn't directed at me personally), I am talking about using everyday items that have letters on them.

What about shirts that have a listing of all the Greek orgs from that campus? I have a Greek Week shirt that has everybody's letters on it, including the NPHC orgs that are represented on campus.

Personally, I would not wear it (although I like that greek unity.) We also have rules about what colors are permissable for are symbols to be used with, as well as in what colors the symbols themselves can be printed.
