Just ran into my PITA PNM's father-- according to him she withdrew two days ago because "SEC recruitment was 'biased' and she was only left with 7 houses for skit; none of which were considered "tops"-- I couldn't hold my tongue any longer and point blank told him that perhaps the problem was not with "SEC recruitment" but rather with his disagreeable and snobbish daughter-- that considering she was a northern OOS girl with zero connections having 7 invites was considered by many to be a "perfect rush" and I found it very hard to believe that she could not find one single thing she liked about any of the seven.

Personally I held off saying what I really wanted to which was good riddance--- In my opinion those 7 houses dodged a major bullet.

7?! And she was mad about that and claimed the system was "biased"? Good riddance, indeed!

Can I hug you?

Agreed, they dodged a major bullet, especially if the parents were in agreement with their daughter's bad attitude. Nothing worse than dealing with an entire family of people who think they are above others.

Sounds like they dodged a surface to air missile!

She may feel differently when she is waiting (and waiting) for an elevator at Tut among a crowd of beautiful, over-the-moon delighted girls wearing jerseys and Bid Day shirts from the 7 chapters she thought she was too good to return to. Some long weeks and waits ahead on that front.

I don't think she is going to like it here.

I could not agree with you more. Hartofsec-- to be honest I was always a little shocked by her choice of schools to begin with. Greek life is such a big part of life down south that I can not even imagine how alienated she is going to feel not only tomorrow but throughout football season, formals, spring parties etc…

Sadly she will probably be one of those girls that transfers back up somewhere closer to home and 'bad mouths' the south for the rest of her life- all because she was too short-sighted and snobbish to open up her own horizons….

Alternately, I wonder if she was dropped completely and couldn't tell her Dad that?

Knowing this family the way I do AGDee I seriously doubt that- aside from being a pretentious snot- this girl "looks good" on paper-- very pretty, great grades, high level of involvement, etc… I just honestly think she (and family) thought that just because she was top dog at her very small very exclusive northern prep school-- that every house "down south" would be clamoring for her. The mother actually asked me "how my house ranked" when I offered to write for her. Damn I should have just kept my mouth shut-- at the time I thought I was doing this girl and the family a favor considering they knew NOTHING about sorority life let alone SEC recruitment-- ah well as I said bullet dodged for the houses at Alabama and lesson learned for this alum!

I have not been asked this question by any of the young women or mothers who've approached me for recs. However, I think all my muscles would tense up if someone asked me how my house ranked. It is revealing when a parent is participating and actually condoning this type of attitude. Parents should realize that they are hurting their kids by taking being anything other than "Panhellenic". Chances are, if the parents had a more hands-off aproach and a whatever happens, happens attitude, she might have hung in there and could have been happy with a bid tomorrow.

Wow, what a bitchy, ignorant thing to say to someone who offered to write a rec. People like this disgust me. So preoccupied with some perceived status, and they end up exposing themselves as shallow, ignorant ingrates with no class.

I think it would be an honor to get a bid from ANY chapter at Alabama, because it's so damn competitive. I just can't fathom how some people (idiots) assume that some groups there are "less than". Just wow.

^^^^This. As Walker Percy says in Lanterns On The Levee, "Bottom rail on top." It's just so much better than saying "parvenu" because the ijits might actually understand it about thirty minutes after you'd have left.

What an entitled ass! I'm glad the daughter won't be in any of the sororities, as you said, bullet dodged.

I think it's also in part to deter use of certain apps, one very popular app in particular

Can I just add that the nature of GLO membership is giving up aspects of individuality when applicable. People who need to do their own thing 100% of the time are not suitable for GLO membership (at least at the collegiate level) and usually either won't be selected for membership or won't last long as a collegiate member.
