Love the plastic belts. We sure didn't have a hair shortage in the 80s and no one needed extensions. Just a lot of Mousse!

Farmville, Virginia - 1901

I was lucky enough to get a copy of a 1901 yearbook from the State Female Normal School of Farmville, Virginia. Kappa Delta, Tri Sigma and Zeta Tau Alpha were in their infancy. Alpha Sigma Alpha would be founded about 6 months later. I looked through the entire yearbook for the future founders of ASA but found none. Keep your eye out for a founder or two of the others.

Sigma Sigma Sigma section:

Kappa Delta section:

Zeta Tau Alpha section:

For those who are familiar with "Chi" which is still very active at Longwood University, it's interesting to note the first members:

Lastly, I think this photo of the "Basket Ball Team" is adorable. About half the team are members of the sororities.

Those are so cool. Thanks Leslie!

I love that it has our old badge design and colors in it. Some people don't know that our colors and badge haven't always been what they are today.

Sidenote: That cheer is still in use by some collegiate chapters

That is so cool, Leslie Anne! I would love to see early Barnard College yearbooks.

ZTA picture

Thanks Leslie Anne. One note----look at all the hair styles in all the pictures. All basically the same. Only one stands out---front and center in the ZTA picture (and she is a member of the BB Team). I know of two women that have this same hairstyle today! 2009!!

I was thinking the same thing...I wonder if her hair was red. My little looks like her!

Show us your 80's!

That's me, rockin' the Gunne Sax dress in the middle - my big sis is in pink on the end. We are dancing to our signature "Uptown Girl".

What do you mean Romans didn't wear blue eye shadow and twist beads???

Me receiving a badge replica from Grand Praetor Keith Sorenson - again with the Gunne Sax.

We loved our Mexican dresses.

Hello Kitty - very 80s. The pink rollers? A great solution for a bad hair day.

I was curious, and I don't know if anyone could tell me, but the Lucy T.C. Stubbs of Tri Sigma...was the current sorority dorm at Longwood named after her?

You know, after reading those cheers, my own sorority's cheer makes a lot more sense. Whenever we sing it, lots of people say, "whaaaaaaaa?" but it appears that a lot of the "nonsense" rhyming was popular.

Thanks so much. This is awesome. I knew the daisy was our original flower but had no idea silver gray was an original color before pearl white.
